You mentioned that the unit is under warranty. I would call the Villages Warranty department if you are in a new home They could push the company to react a little different.

I had a central AC repair issue in Chicago a few years ago. I bought a small window unit. For $100 it made life tolerable for a week or so. I know TV and your deed restrictions outlaw window units, but before they can get through the enforcement process your central unit will likely be repaired. Good luck.

Portable unit we purchased is not helping much at all. No answers and nowhere to go from here. Beyond the point of screaming!
You should ask what part it is along with the part number and see if you can find it yourself on the internet. I’ve replaced my capacitor myself, replaced the drain line sensor and cleared my drain line. Sometimes it’s an easy fix. Good luck. 👍🏼

Same problem with plumbing supplies and parts. Most mfrs of plumbing systems, America Standard, Moen, Kohler, etc., have cut production lines or shut them down for faucets (of all sizes and shapes) because they cannot get raw materials for the brass composite materials which come out of Ukraine and Russia. Prices are skyrocketing on faucets because of the anticipated shortages.

this is horrifying. I have a window unit you are welcome to borrow. Send me a PM if you want it.

Try Marc Anthony in Lady Lake for HVAC. He put a new unit in for us in one day. Great job. Very reasonable.

Check your warranty. It might say " fix or replace". If they ( contractor ) can't fix it, for whatever reason, in a reasonable time frame, they may be required to replace it with a new one. New units are being installed all over. They are available somewhere.

Do not understand why village warranty dept cannot help you.

Villages building 300 plus homes a month all with A/C. They should have a lot of clout.

Default Bad news

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but…
We are involved in a renovation to make a standing building into a church. We have been told that the AC manufacturers are at a standstill..because they are being told that the “Green” rules are changing daily..so many have stopped production as they don’t want to be stuck with equipment that doesn’t pass the “green” rules. 😡

Good Guys Air Conditioning & Heating—Michael Labanz (Owner and Technician). Cell: (352) 805 – 0035. Just want to let Villagers know that Mike helped us out on a Sunday evening, when the next day was Memorial Day. Our A/C was not working. I left a message for Mike. He called back within ½ hour, and was here within ½ hour after that. He replaced the broken part, checked the Freon gas via BTU measurement, and made sure everything was in good working order. A/C is working great. He will be back next week to install a new Honeywell “Smart” WiFi thermostat. Mike is an honest and very knowledgeable fellow.

It sounds like the OP has a Trane unit. I think The Villages has been installing Carrier units for many years in their new houses. That is good reason to replace any old HVAC unit with the standard Villages product, Carrier. I don't have anything against Trane, but I believe you will have better parts availability for repairs if you have a Carrier system.

Really?? You mean all those new buildings going up in the Villages and throughout the country don't have A/C? You mean there are new "green" rules that would stop an installation next week or next month? Or perhaps you are being conned by someone with an agenda, or we are. Google does not seem to know about companies stopping production because of this worry.

There is a shortage of parts and materials that began with the pandemic. That shortage is not because of environmental protection. It has nothing at all to due with "green" unless you mean money.

I had basically no air conditioning for the heat wave at the end of June and well into July. Sun Kool came every so many months to service my unit since I purchased my new home almost five years ago. For about a year and a half I complained that my thermostat’s set temperature was never achieved until late evening. I was told that I would never get it to the set temp in extreme heat….BS! So when my thermostat that was set at 74 slowly climbed from 76 to 82 I demanded a service call. Mind you, parts AND labor were still under warranty. First I was told they were going to replace the capacitor and add Pureon, aka Freon. Still no help and in one week I had so many SunKool trucks in front of my house that I think my neighbors must have thought I was having an affair! Only kidding. Finally a “field manager” came and determined that I needed a new compressor. Of course this was the Friday before 4th of July. I was assured it would be ordered that day and it would arrive and be installed on Tuesday. Meanwhile I purchased a portable unit as SK had none to loan out. I laughed when one man put me on hold to see if there was one in the “basement”. Geez! They did finally get one to me and it was missing parts and taped together. Finally the day came on a Thursday when my compressor was ready to be installed. As the installer was charging it with Pureon, I stood in the kitchen with my hand reaching up to the vent. No cold air was coming out. We waited, still no cold air. The installer came back into my house and announced that, although it doesn’t happen often, the “new” compressor was defective. I literally wanted to cry. They had no idea where they would get another or how long it would take. Frustrated and angry as I watched my poor dog panting, I called Carrier and asked to speak with someone in customer service. I told my story of woe to a very kind woman who said in disbelief that she was so sorry for all I endured. She was going to connect me with someone who could help me. I spoke with a gentleman who told me that my experience was unacceptable and that he was going to make it right. Within an hour I received a call from SunKool saying that a compressor was located in Louisiana and was being driven to The Villages, it would be installed in the morning. Miracle of miracles, the installer came back with a box containing a NEW compressor. Within an hour my inside temperature when from 86 to 74. This is my story of being without ac in the summer in FL. My heart goes out to you. I know exactly how frustrated and helpless you are feeling. If you haven’t called the manufacturer yet, I urge you to do so. I do hope you are back to cool very soon.

Default Dual Staged Compressor.

Ten years ago, I had a Carrier Xfinity, heat pump with a staged compressor installed by Summa AC and have not had one minute trouble with it.

I am able to control the humidity at 50%, independent of the temperature and find that a summer time setting of 78° at 50% humidity is very comfortable.

The unit runs as a 1 ton unit 84% of the time and a 4 ton unit when needed.

The staged unit saved me $65.00 a month on my electric bill (on average) over the previous year.

Big does not make a dealer better. Well trained, knowledgeable technicians and customer service are key.

We can feel for your frustration. We are now on seven weeks without a working refrigerator. Numerous calls to Costco, Whirlpool and Fields Appliance Service for warranty work have brought lots of sympathy but no results. Finally, today, Whirlpool determined that we need a new refrigerator. When? Maybe five to seven working days but no guarantee. We continue to be using coolers in a losing effort to keep perishables cold. Bottom line- customer service is not what it used to be. The human element is missing, and the electronic age has left us high, dry and hot under the collar and elsewhere.
