Thanks --- the homes in the paper are what we call "spec" homes.

New extras were $18,000

I know because I keep a spreadsheet to track what this little (Jasmine model) home cost me. And of course I bought at the top of the market. A best buy is a pre-owned home. I will never buy new again. Lessons learned, I only ever learn the hard way... I do, however, love my neighborhood. I have the best neighbors in the world. I know everyone thinks that, but mine really are. They will take me out of here feet first.

We built a new Lily on the golf course and our "extras" were right at $20,000. Of Course this figure does not include the extra cost of the golf course lot. The biggest part was landscaping. I would do it all over again.

C, we have talked about this before and I just read your post and went to the site and went to look for a Gardenia, and the very first one I clicked on had blinds.

Which makes me jump to the conclusion that the built to sell homes are like they always were; some have blinds and some don't, some have stainless steel appliances and some don't and some are bumped and some aren't and some have pools and some don't. We had this conversation about ceiling fans and I went to look and the first one I clicked on had a ceiling fan.

GG, I looked at all the new designers that listed open houses for today. Only two listed blinds in their features list. None listed fans.

I believe both of my neighbors. Neither one is prone to stretching the truth in my association with them. They are both friends, more than acquaintenances.

We recently look at some designer models in the new Village of LaBelle. The new "spec" homes we saw were "all over the place" regarding various upgrades. There was only one that didn't have fans---several didn't have lights in the fans however. Some have tile in the normal areas, some have vinyl. Some had blinds and some didn't. Some had stainless appliances and some didn't. Etc. etc.

They are "spec" homes and priced accordingly.

We bought our house a few days before the announcement of the supposedly big discount in December. I watched the website the week after the houses were listed with the new discount and didn't find any better deal than I got in November. It is all relative. Just be happy with the decision you make. I know I am. Counting down the days until we are there full time.

Depending on your personal taste there may be a large cost to outfitting a new home to your liking. Finding a used one with the outfitting you like is also difficult. Seems either way you spend more money.

I like the new option on TheVillages in Buy & Save where you can view on a map what houses are still for sale in a particular unit of a Village. Twelve of the 28 houses in Hillsborough unit 216 & 217 along Hillsborough Trail have not sold with the current discounts. Location, location, location

I am not calling your friends uninformed. However I was looking at the pictures of the homes and that is where I saw the blinds at the windows and the fans on the ceiling. This was not a model tour, it was the picture of the actual house for sale.

There are always some that are slow to sell in all villages when they are only selling spec houses. They are usually then discounted. They are all nice homes, some are more beautiful and sought after and some are just............................nice.

Just curious. What is wrong with the location, location, location in Hillsborough?

My take on Hillsborough is that it is very noisy, because Morse runs very closely parallel to it. So Morse is in your backyard, and also an MM path.

We had noticed that a lot of spec homes on Hillsborough were empty as of a month ago. Maybe they have been sold by now.
