I agree with Don(GWN). Perhaps you should just open a section/category on 'Politics'? Let those who feel the need to express their opinions, go there? Anyone not interested, can avoid it, as they'll know what they're getting into?

Imagine someone all 'likkered up,' who becomes enraged and knowing a persons name and address (easy to get after the name)...decides to take their rage out on that person or their property.

With all due respect, I don't see you using your real name and address either.

I see the case for both sides and feel the right to a certain amount of anonymity allows one to state their feelings, experiences, opinions more openly without fear of possible reprisal or embarrassment. Think of the "we tip" programs that allow reporting to the police without fear of reprisal, or the dreaded "two ladies in the golf cart" reporting community violation. If someone complains about my garden gnome and I ask who reported me I am not allowed to know who it is because of the possibility of reprisal. Same here. Besides, that person nextdoor that you get along so well with now just might change if he/she finds out who they have been arguing with on totv, then there goes the neighborhood.

Maybe if we had to use our real names here instead of "cover names" this would help. In Facebook there is a talk group for Villagers. In that group real names are used and it definitely makes a difference.

Please kick the violators off the site for 30 day intervals, and keep records of the violators. Repeat offenders goto detention for 90days, followed by 1 year, followed by expulsion.

I am happy to keep hearing about the rules of these forums, but as others have remarked there is still posts that seem to pass through the cracks. 2 hours after this post from admin was written, there was a thread called "We have a leadership problem" where the 10th post actually names a political leader and has the word "idiots" in it's post. Both political and demeaning. I'm sure it's a very difficult job to moderate everything that is being said, but hopefully we do see real change for the better.

And that is why I think TOTV should bring back the political forum and move anything having anything to do with politics to that forum. And let people use their screen names instead of making everyone "anonymous."


After that the mods can go back to just casting out the nasty posts on the other forums. I also think it depends on which mod is on duty as to how long a questionable thread or post gets through. Some of the violations are so blatant you have to wonderful if any mod is monitoring.
