Notice from District Regarding Phone Scam
I just received the following notice by email from the Community Development District with a Media Release from the Lady Lake Police regarding a “One Ring Phone Scam”. We do not answer Unknown or unrecognized calls but I did look back at my caller ID over the last month and we had quite a few unknown calls. Of course I do not know if they are related to this scam but it is a good practice to let the calls go to voice mail.

Good info! I never try to call back an unrecognized missed caller... But I wonder how you could be billed for answering a call???

Or are they checking to see if you are home.

Wife and I received one of these calls on each of our cell phones at the exact same time last week. 1 ring, we did not call back.

Come to think of it, there was a 1 ring call yesterday on our home phone, it was short and quick and I thought the length of the ring sounded odd.

Are these land lines only or cell also ?
I think phone companies could stop these if they wanted .

I Never answer unknown or not provided phone calls. And they seldom leave a message

We received several of these calls on my wife's phone. Didn't pick up or call back any of them. Used block future call feature from the number but they keep using different phones suggesting a persistently annoying source.
We contacted Verizon who acknowledged their awareness of the growing problem but offered us no remedy or assurance that we would not be billed in the event of an inadvertent connection. Insidious dilemma when you have family in several area codes and some who travel. Thanks for the heads up carm310 and thank you TOTV for providing a community service resource. |

Phone marketers will have a robo call system call and if you answer, your number is then sent to the marketer who knows you are home and will answer the phone. They do not have to waste time waiting for an answering machine. The second call will have a different number on the caller ID.

I received this call yesterday. Since I was expecting a call, I did not look to see who it was from. I called the phone company. They asked if anything was said and what I heard. She is marking my account because the charge will not appear until the end of your billing cycle. The charge will be a fee of some kind such as membership fee, activation fee, etc. the phone company will take it off.
