Default Nunley's

If the heading got ya...you obviously know Freeport and/or Baldwin.
I grew up in Freeport, just seeing if there are any others!
Happy St Pat's to all!

No, that was Jolly Rogers.
Moved to No. Bellmore in 1959. Remember both of them but mostly went to JR.

(Pretend it's a hot dog)

Default Yep

That was Jolly Rogers...lol...almost forgot that name...
I was there a few times when I was very young....
Nunleys's was on the Freeport/Baldwin border...many a good times when I was a kid!
I had an Aunt and Uncle that lived in No Belmore about that same time, then they also moved to Freeport.

You are right. The place on Hempstead Typ. was Jolly Rogers. I took my kids there
so many times when they were young I don't know how I mixed it up with Nunleys

Default More Long Island memories

In addition to fun places to visit like Nunley's and Jolly Rogers, do you remember these places to eat:

Raynor's, Baldwin- best fried chicken
Bigelows, Oceanside - best fried clams
Jahn's, East Meadow - best ice cream parties

I remember Jahn's giving a free sundae on your birthday with a flaming sugar cube.

Our go-to place for chicken was Zorn's.

Default Nunley's Carousel

I grew up in Baldwin and spent a good deal of time at Nunley's Carousel as a youth. I'm glad they saved the carousel! It has been relocated to Museum Row in Garden City.

Google it and you'll find a lot of information about it.

Default Nunley's

My parent took my brothers and me to Nunley, and Jolly Rogers, and Nathans in Oceanside with the Carousel indoors. We live in Queens and would take drives out to the Island.

I thought it was Nunley's Playland. Hicksville Rd & Hempstead Tpke. Lots of great games, rides and The Jolly Roger Restaurant. Best roast beef sandwiches outside of NYC.

Just for the record, the best roast beef sandwiches in NYC were at Brennan and Carr and Roll 'n Roaster in Brooklyn, the Big Bow Wow in Howard Beach and the Treaty Stone bar on 32nd St. in Manhatten. I also make a mean one.
