Default Obviously (Hopefully) a New Villager!

I was just returning a few minutes ago from Lake Sumter Landing - after a good "after church special" dinner at Cody's Road House - and a car turns onto the golf cart trail that parallels Buena Vista - and kept going until the next village entrance. That person had no clue whatsoever - and I bet the spouse was really yelling the whole time.

The post that is supposed to be in the middle of the golf cart trail entrance was missing but that is still no excuse for such careless driving.

My wife commented to me that person probably will not buy into the Villages as it is just too confusing to drive here.

Anyone else seen such dumb moves?

Sadly, yes. Sometimes the drivers just aren't comfortable with backing up, know the path goes all the way through with no tunnel, so use it to the next exit. The worst case I saw was when the car got stuck in the tunnel. I'd love to see the insurance report on that one.

Quite honestly, I've been known to start to take my car on a golf cart path out of habit. I drive my cart far more than I do my cart. To say that I've been extremely embarrassed is putting it mildly. Fortunately, I've never gotten further than my two front wheels.

I think there's something in the air in TV. You think you're in a golf cart, should be in a golf cart, want to be in a golf cart and, somehow, magically, your car becomes a golf cart -- until it touches the golf cart path and then it becomes a stupid car again.

Leaving Hadley, heading towards the Havana CC, more than once I've had to stop myself (in the car) from making a left before the gate and heading down the golf cart path! Like Redwitch, I drive my cart much more than my car,(cart-90%, car-10%) and believe it or not, you can forget what you're driving. jackie

One time a few years ago, a group of us were eating at Big City Grill, across from the high school. The road beside the place had a cart path that didn't have that post at the entrance and the path really seemed to be an auto path. As we dined outdoors, car after car headed down that cart path. A number recognized that it was a cart path when they got to the tunnel and backed out, but a couple of smaller cars just drove through to the other side. Honestly, we yelled to alert drivers they had turned too early, but no one could hear us. I was amazed that no one was hurt. We were there for about 30 minutes and got to the point where we were sort of "betting" if the next car would head down the cart path or not.

Just yesterday I was driving west on El Camino Real near Freedom Point and a car was driving toward me in the passing lane I was in. Fortunately I could get into the right lane but the person driving looked at me like I was the one doing something wrong. Also don't know how many times I have been on El Camino with non street legal golf carts going their 20 mph merry way. Needless to say, I am a VERY defensive driver!!!

I noticed that many times since I have been here. Instead of an apologetic or embarrassed look that I expected, I get the look that I am in the wrong.

Coming home from Yoga last Thursday I was behind a golf cart heading out of Lake Sumter to the cart path to go north over the bridge. I'm waiting for that cart to pull over to turn left onto the cart path, but no she goes straight ahead into the rotary !! I couldn't look after that. It's always defense on the roads and paths!

You are right...You put yourself on automatic pilot and you turn where you always turn.

My Sweetie, who I think is the BEST driver in the world almost went into a rotary in our golf cart.

I did that once. My sister was visiting and we were leaving Mallory after lunch. Drove out, headed down O'Dell through the gate, and discovered I was in the rotary on Morse. Drove around, back to O'Dell, through the gate and on to the golf cart path back up O'Dell towards home. Sis had no idea what the heck I was doing, but when I told her we weren't supposed to be driving on Morse, she was my co-pilot, making sure there were no cars as we quickly, with our Damnation, I goofed look on our faces, drove around the circle, that could be impacted, figuratively and literally, by our presence!

Wow, I'm amazed that this type driving occurs during certain months. I'll bet it has something to do the the alignment of the planets.

Nay, it probably has more to do with the snow up north.
