I have been smoking a joint 2 or 3 times a week for many years . I only do it on the lanai usually at night listening to a little jazz and glass of good wine . I’m a few weeks away from being 82 and I never smoked cigarettes, a little weed , wine and Coltrane is one of life’s little pleasures

Some grandparents do, some do not.

Totally agree. Not a fan of drugs whether legal or not. Not a moral stance, just not my thing. However, legalizing and taxing these so called recreational drugs would put a dent in both the related criminal activity and the government deficit. What's not to like.

It will be, as soon as Rick Scott figures how he can make a lot of money from it.

I have a friend with Agent Orange Disability who has so many problems, the government should give him whatever he wants. Very nasty stuff. Pot does help mitigate the pain meds required and allows the physicians to reduce the amount of pain med given. I've lost two other friends to Agent Orange problems. I'm eternally grateful I was sent to Europe for my duty station during that war.

I believe Oregon just legalized it in the last election.

Drugs cost $$$$ and when the users don't have enough $$$$ they steal, sometimes kill or injure, and destroy families. They are no good.

Wow...

Mustagotlost 11-28-2020 11:35 AM

Legal in Florida!

It is too legal in Florida. Even other states honor marijuana license from Florida.

Used to love that band in the '70s. Their first three albums are great, every song a winner. Don't know why they didn't hit it as big as some other southern rockers. Very cool that you hung out with Jim Dandy. I can only say I hung out with Kerry Livgren of Kansas (who turned me on not to weed, but some great Italian prog) after an interview for my college newspaper in 1977.

LiverpoolWalrus 11-28-2020 11:47 AM

OP, they're just doing what so many of us used to do at their age, and we turned out alright. I for one would rather see them do that than drink to excess.

Curtisbwp 11-28-2020 12:00 PM

You have yet to encounter the grandparents doing the same thing.

ts12755 11-28-2020 12:10 PM

Iin the last 2 years I've met several dozen Villagers that use legal and illegal Marijuana here in the villages. It will be recreational legal in Florida by the next Governor election.

That is incorrect.

Medical marijuana is legal, controlled, and regulated in the state of Florida. Recreational use is still not legal in the state though.

Oh yes. I'm pretty sure I even had at least one of their albums back in the day. Kerry Livgren introducing me to Italian prog had a huge effect on me. After that night I checked out Banco, PFM, Le Orme, Area, etc. To this day, I still think Banco is one of the best bands ever, in any genre, from any country. I had the good fortune to finally see them live in one of their rare U.S. appearances at a progfest in PA around 2008.

And strangely enough...Banco had a hold on Kansas, too. Their song The Spider from Point of Know Return sounds exactly like the great Italian proggers. The Spider - YouTube

And here for your listening pleasure is the one and only Banco doing one of my favorite songs of all time, and I owe it all to Kansas: Banco del mutuo soccorso (non mi rompete) - YouTube

I agree! Marijuana is much better than being drunk. Maybe with MJ, you get lost, drive slowww & giggle uncontrollably but it’s better than have a bar fight or be mean

ismatta 11-28-2020 02:38 PM

So what. Outdoors, and if your driving responsibly, a great distance from you. At least it wasn’t a cancer causing cigar.

Anything you burn and inhale can potentially cause lung cancer.

What effect the covid restrictions have had on marijuana consumption, has decreased or increased or had no discernible effect?

Some grandparents do, some do not.

Some grandparents do, most grandparents don’t give a 5hit; they’re afraid of offending their kids or grandkids.

Getting high and driving responsibly seems oxymoronic.

There are plenty of sidewalks in the villages. Also plenty of nice green grass with shade next to the MMPs. And every home has right of way property which is publicly owned.

California was nirvana in the 80s. Now Uhaul costs 10x more to move out than to move in.
But what am I thinking? It could never happen here.

The resulting widespread addiction in China was causing serious social and economic disruption there.

You now have judges in California that say that homeless people have a right to camp out on any public sidewalk including the one in front of single homes. Don't think it could happen in The Villages? All it takes is an election or two.

I bet they can’t camp out on Wiltshire Blvd.?

Well, at least they didn’t stop at the electrician boxes and start Humping like the drunks did. Or maybe the wasn’t high enough yet?

I've definitely caught whiff of it, on many more than one occasion, as I've tooled around TV in my cart. Live and let live. Just another one of those things that handled responsibly is not a problem for anyone, but handled irresponsibly could be. Like cars, booze, dogs, golf carts, drones, car stereos, , just to name a few.
