Why not keep it on the pavement or sidewalk? If the dog "needs" grass to eliminate on, then owners should use their own yard.

The first thing that needs to be stopped is the retractable leash released to whatever length the dog desires. Control the dog and keep it close, not extended to yards.

Ever notice the furtive looks when they extend the leash? And the way they turn their backs on the dog as it does its business. They know it's wrong. They just don't care.

Pets are a very important part of many of our residents lives including mine. You can't clean up pee and some pets just won't go in the street. I find it sad that this troubles you so. I hate to think I am about to move to an area where I can't even walk my dog without grumbling as we do the best we can to clean up after them. I guess in such a close neighborhood there will always be differences of opinion. Seeing the constant grumbling on this subject is disappointing.

I have already been in the yard an had a dog walker leave their mess in the yard. I simply asked them directly and politely to please clean up after their pets. This will be the last post I will do or read on this subject. I prefer to lead a positive life and hope to encourage others to do so living in harmony.

Baloney! If you keep the dog on the sidewalk or pavement and the dog has to go, sooner or later they'll unload.

And if they don't unload while out on the walk and kept on the sidewalk/street, they can do it when they get home, on your own property or in your house or garage.

Who's in charge? The owner or the dog??

I have a nice big yard where the dog can take care of her business before we leave. However sometimes if we are out on a long walk she might need to relieve herself. Picking up the poo is no doubt required. I want to see a yard where the grass is so senitive a bit of dog pee is going to burn the grass.

I guess I'll put a sign saying dog pee is welcome....

raynan 04-18-2015 09:06 PM

It's really simple. Dog goes in their own yard and then goes for a walk as a reward. Been doing this here for 5 years, no problem. Second pit stop when you get back to your own yard.

Ok, I keep waiting for someone to make the comment, but no luck, so I'll do it and take the heat... I now teach my dog to pee in the street on our walks. Now the walkers behind us are complaining because the have to walk around the pee or a golf cart drives through it. When they start b#%^*+ing about the dog peeing in the street what should we do now? Go!

It is beautiful here!

who think that not wanting a dog to use someone else's property as their toilet has mental issues....strangely enough it's a simple matter of doing what is right and too many feel entitled to do whatever they damn well please...

At any age those with common sense and respect for others and their property don't like it when filth is put on their property...wow imagine that..

It's nice there are those who label folks with common sense cranky, demented and looking for faults...it's to bad their upbringing didn't include how to act in public...

We need more dog parks. Dogs needs to be exercised and taken for walks.
There is only one small dog park provided for all the dogs between CR 466 and 466A, which is ridiculous.
It's on a hill behind the Bonita Fire Station.
It's small, hard to navigate because it's on a hill, and sometimes it's closed during the day.
More dog parks would be beneficial to people owning dogs.
And they would also benefit non-dog owners who don't want to see those pesky mutts anywhere near their lawns
(and I don't blame them at all).
We take our dogs daily to a private dog park and we're happy to pay for that, but not everyone is.

find a place to bring it or walk it in the road/sidewalk...as for those not happy to pay for a private dog park...sell the dog. I love dogs...they're great companions and fun to be around....it's the damn owners who need the training...if they want more dog parks then let dog owners pay for them!!!!

Following your logic, I guess only golfers should contribute toward golf course amenities, only tennis players should subsidize tennis courts, only pickle ball players should be expected to pay amenities for pickle ball courts, only baseball players should subsidize baseball diamonds .... :blahblahblah::blahblahblah:

Your post makes no sense. You love dogs, but if one is not happy with dog parks, sell the dog? How 'bout if I'm not happy with the family pools. Sell the grandkids?

Stupid.

gerryann 04-18-2015 10:11 PM

This poop thread is going nowhere and never will. All they do is get people upset. Dogs will ALWAYS be walked here in the villages. Those that pick up (almost all) will continue to do so. Those that don't pick up ( a small minority) will continue to leave the poop. Just deal with each case individually.

Nothing will get solved with nasty comments. A lot of you will be leaving soon to go home, so you won't have to deal with it anymore.....and even if your lawn gets peed on while your gone, you'll never know cause your lawn will still look fine. My dog pees on my lawn and my lawn is in absolutely perfect condition.

Life's too short. SMILE. It's such a trivial problem.

Spikearoni 04-18-2015 10:12 PM

Once Again

We have two dogs and never allow them to urinate on our lawn or anyone else's. Urine leaves burn spots that are clearly visible. How anyone can consider themselves to be "responsible pet owners" when s/he permits his/her pet to relieve themselves on private property is beyond me.

Laurie2 04-18-2015 10:31 PM

What's this I hear?

Pray tell, where do your dogs urinate?

Stdole 04-18-2015 11:15 PM

I don't know where in the "right away areas" you get the idea this is for dogs... I beg to differ if you check the law and regulations.. these areas are for utility work and related work entry areas. Please list the page and paragraph where these areas are for dogs.

jebartle 04-19-2015 03:51 AM

Why is this so hard to understand????

When your dog pees, so does every other dog behind him, which DOES leave marks in yard....What I don't understand is why the owner (the one with the BIG brain) takes their dog across the street to a neighbors yard to do his business when they know that this is NOT acceptable, Why, Why, would you do that!....We have resorted to small signs that request "No pets please" and this works most of the time. We have a little dog and take him to pet parks, and common areas, NOT neighbors yard!...Come on folks, it's not that tough!..:pray:

Sadly, there are inconsiderate dog owners who allow their pets to befoul neighborhood lawns.

Equally sad is that legally it's not your lawn in most cases. If you will look at your purchase papers you will find that your property line is not at the street. In most cases the first 12 or 15 feet between the edge of the street and your property line is part of the roadway right-of-way. Although you are expected to maintain the lawn, it is not yours. You have no standing to charge a person in this area with trespassing.

People can ignore your complaints, so why bother?

With all respect, Carl, whom I adore, it actually is your lawn for all purposes except as specified in the easement, which for the county is to build a road or the developer for utility repairs or upgrades. Otherwise homeless people could camp on my 13 foot easement.

In some cases, it may be an easement, which the homeowner owns. But in most cases, the area immediately adjacent to the road is right-of-way, which the homeowner does not own.

I'm not saying it's right to let your dog do his business there, because the homeowner does maintain it and it is for all intents and purposes part of the home's front yard. It should be treated as such IMHO.

dbussone 04-19-2015 07:55 AM

We have a corner lot. Our dog is contained within our property by an Invisible Fence, so he does all his business in our yard. Our neighborhood has many other dogs and almost all their owners pick up if their dogs uses the grass in the easement closest to the street. Every once I awhile a stranger walks a dog and doesn't pick up after the dog. (That does frost me somewhat.) having said that, despite the use of a portion of our lawn by dogs, there is not a single spot where the lawn has suffered.

I'll be right over with my male non-leg-lifting, 88-lb dog to show you what the spot looks like!

To that end, ours is trained to pee in the landscape stones:o

Have you ever wondered why cat haters don't post about it?
Cats get a total pass.
I have some that jump my fence and use my flower beds as a litterbox.
But my pups love the action.

Dog elimination is indeed a topic on a lot of Village People's minds. It requires a lot of brisk and decisive discussion.
If you miss this week's thread, no worries, there will be another one along shortly.

I'll have to get back to you.

Mleeja 04-19-2015 08:52 AM

I have learned a lot since I have joined TOTV. When I buy my next house I will make sure is not on a street where folks walk thier dogs, does not border a golf course and is north or south of 466, depending on the hot topic of the day. I really feel sorry for those that live next to a golf course and on a dog walker street. They are getting it from both sides..
