Default Paint or not

We're closing at the end of January and won't be in until August. We'll have time to paint before we move. How's the builders paint? Has anyone done white ceilings? That's the look I always like.

Typically your ceilings are already white. Before painting the walls, do a LIGHT scraping to knock off any "paint boogers" that will catch the new paint and cause drips.

Painters will typically charge you less if the home is empty...much easier to paint that way.

Note that the original paint is usually flat, and is considered a mid grade builder quality paint. Many folks elect to "upgrade" to a higher grade and add color to what some consider a blank canvas.

Take a good look at the walls, (as well as many other things) for areas/issues you may not be happy with. Many items are only taken care of within the 1st 30 days. Thus the importance of your 30 day check list. This is important and it does not matter that you will not be there until months later.

There is a system, a process, a timeline that does not allow for individual unique circumstances.

Congratulations....I hope this helps!

Frank

Thanks, Frank I'll be closing by mail so won't have a chance to do an inspection prior to closing. I will be down for a couple of weeks between closing and occupancy in August. That's when I hope to schedule the painting to get done. I wanted to use eggshell for most of the house and semigloss in the bathrooms and kitchen. Do you have any referrals on contractors?

I think the builder paints the ceilings the same color as the walls and the trim. So, if you have off-white walls you will off-white ceilings, not white.

That's what I thought why would the builders spend the money to paint the cealing a different color?

I can't speak for the rest of The Villages, but our home (and many of our neighbors whose houses I've been in) all have white ceilings, and off white walls. Lake Deaton, circa 2014

My house, built 3 years ago, has off-white walls, trim, and ceilings. Unless they have changed their procedure, I think the standard for new construction is to paint the ceiling the same color as the walls. But, it appears that sometimes, they use white for the doors and trim.

I would for sure have my house painted with good Sherwin Williams paint before moving in. The villages uses cheap paint and it is flat. Pick a color scheme you like. I have a very reasonable painter who has done many jobs for me. If you want to call him his name is Gerard and his number is 352-216-6305. Rae

The Villages uses, and has used, Sherwin Williams and Florida Paints. And as far sheen is concerned, I would want nothing but flat paint on my walls.

There is different quality Sherwin Williams Paint, there is quite a difference between contractors paint and their other paints. As far as the sheen goes it's a personal choice. Over 85% of all our paint jobs in the Villages Opt for Egg Shell finish. Len

Of course there is. And their premium paint is $60 + a gallon (not the contractors price, of course). Although I've painted about 75% of our walls (opting for personalized colors) I'm 100% happy with the paint The Villages put on our walls.
