Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I would think you replace it.

I painted my son's vinyl sided home. It was easy and came out looking great. The newer paints can adhere and stretch enough for the expansion and contraction of vinyl. His home was that old light mint green.....we painted it a warm clay/gray color. Came out great and raised the value and curb appeal quite a bit.

We cleaned the siding well first, then painted it with Sherwin Williams Duration. You have to use a good paint that says it will work with vinyl.

It was very easy, as there is of course no scraping, etc.

I would think the biggest issue is vinyl expands and contracts and this could open up areas that were not painted. Personally, I would not do it.

Frank, glad you found a product that works, I remember a neighbor up North doing this and after 2-3 years, it was a disaster, with chipping and pealing paint. I completely agree that cleaning the siding is critical to a good job.

I have seen this done on more than a few houses. If done correctly there are no problems or gapping.

That being said, one needs to know why one wants this done. Vinyl siding is relatively inexpensive to replace....a pretty fun project of you enjoy projects. You have many options and painting is just one of them. Some of the newer styles of vinyl look great.

If one just does not like the color, adding shutters can have a dramatic look.

I had my siding painted almost three years ago...and it looks great. I had the siding cleaned, and used Sherwin Williams paint. My understanding is that they use an additive that allows for the siding to expand/contract
