We are moving to a newly constructed home in TV and spoke with both Nova Filters and Pegasus Water about water filtration and softeners.
Nova offers: 1. Their mainstay product, the 3-canister whole home filtration system which removes both the sediment (respectively, claims per canister first to 25 microns, then to 10 microns, and finally to 5 microns which also filters chlorine) and should be changed ~26,000 gallons or about 9-12 months, depending on usage. 2. A reverse osmosis (RO) system installed - with subcontractor the drill faucet hole - under the sink for drinking and refrigerator water/ice which further filters both sediment (down to .02 microns) and any remaining chlorine. 3. A water softener, in garage after the whole house filtration which some customers also install to and use potassium- (K) or, more frequently and less costly, sodium- (Na) chloride to remove magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca) which clogs faucet heads. Pegasus claims they are replacing a lot of Nova system with their PM3200 Plus unit which is an all-in-one and filters, purifies, and softens the water using KCl only, and apparently requiring less frequent changing (5 or 6 bags per year vs. 12 per year). With the PM3200 Plus there's no need for RO systems, but the company does charge ~$100/year for "maintenance" and I can't understand how this is thing works. Does anyone have the Pegasus system? If so, can you please explain how it differs from the Nova? I get that it's all-in-one, but at least to me, it seems there are only so many ways (one or two?) to filter, purify, and soften water. Thanks in advance. |

FYI, There are a lot of threads on softeners vs. softener's on TOTV, LOL. The owner of Nova is also on this forum and you might just bluntly ask them as I am sure he may chime in to your post.

And, yes, I figured Bob Novak of Nova Filters who hails from my neighborhood of Long Island and still owns the aquarium business here but now lives in Chitty Chatty is on here, but I figured he wouldn’t own a Pegasus system. Now that his grandson Shane just had a baby Jackson he’s also a bit busy being a new great grandfather, I’m sure. 😂 Sorry to be so blunt but I shared that I have spoken with Nova (Bob’s grandson Shane) at length and am looking for help from others who have experience with the PM3200 Plus, or even Pegasus (“Does anyone have the Pegasus system?”) There are a lot of options including Culligan and DIY (purchasing from Sears, Lowe’s or other manufacturers like APEC online like I have). I was asking specifically about Pegasus and the claims that It’s superior to Nova which I find hard to believe. |

You might be overthinking this. Put in the Nova filter and see how you like the taste. I'm very happy with my Nova filter system and see a little calcium around the faucets but nothing is clogged up after 5 years. Give your buddy the business, they have been very good to me.

We have owned a Pegasus water softener for 9 years now. Other than paying a lot more for KCl, I haven’t seen any difference in water quality at the tap from the Kinetico unit I had for 30 years up north. Actually, I liked the Kinetico unit better as it was a dual bed unit and only recharged based on actual demand. Given our travel schedule, I unplug our Pegasus unit when we leave town for an extended period of time.

You might contact DWilson. I believe he has a Pegasus and has offered to give his opinion of Nova, albeit privately.
Edit to say we've had a Nova for 6 years and are totally satisfied.

The fact that you can't find any information on the Pegasus PM3200 Plus system should tell you something.
You are not going to get a better three stage filter system than the Nova system. You can upgrade it with double carbon filters to get even better filtration. Unless you are filling your pool, you will only need to change the filters once per year. Express Water makes a similar system. You can research that to get more info on the type of system Nova installs. For water softeners, all salt systems are basically the same with the exception of build quality. The Nova system works well and is probably half the price of the Pegasus and doesn't work any different except on the Pegasus, the filters are built into the softener which is not a good thing. Pegasus will tell you you never have to change the carbon filter but we know from experience that it can fail and then you are stuck. You can't guarantee a carbon filter won't fail or need changing over time. I have the Nova filter and softener for almost 4 years now and they work well, never had a problem and the company is very responsive if you ever have an issue. Again, as some have said, you are over researching this and I understand that because Pegasus does a hard sell here in the Villages. Any time a company critisizes another company, that's a warning to stay away. Once after I had my Nova filter and softener installed, I had my water professionally tested and it came back excellent. Then I called Pegasus, had them come over, didn't show or tell them what water system I had. They took a sample and told me by using some scam test that my water was no good and I needed their system to clean it up, LOL. Anyway, at the end of the day, most here in the Villages use the Nova system and although you may find a couple of stories, generally, everyone is satisfied and there is no reason to waste your money on an expensive system that will work just as well as a less expensive system. |

The biggest difference is cost, Nova is much lower. I had the Nova filters with softener for 7 years and was completely satisfied with it, the water was soft, no scale, and the taste out of the tap was excellent, no need for a fridge filter.

I, and several of my neighbors, have the Pegasus System. It softens and filters. I worked with the Sales Mgr. Larry McCullough 352-217-3841. He came to the house, explained the system and provided a packet of information that had photos of the process. I'll do my best here to be helpful but I would have someone come out, it's free. There is a multi media tank. This is where the filtration happens. There is a tank for the potassium chloride. Every x amount of gallons of water used or days, the brine tank with the potassium chloride creates the brine and regenerates the media tank. (cleans the media). Once a year, you have them do a maintance for 109.00. They change o rings and run it etc. I have the Kinetico RO system in my home up north. Very nice system, It was pretty expensive. I'm just as happy with this Pegasus system. The water quality is great. No smells or off tastes... The multi stage filters in the Kinetico system need changed periodically. We do it ourselves but they are pretty expensive. The pegasus system seems more economical once installed.
