I don't understand some of the village villages design. Seems some have to drive 1/2 mile to get 30 foot on the other side of the wall.... Seems to me for thought would of been to golf cart lane out at the other ends of some of the villages or at least sidewalk on nobody property? . But, I guess that maybe security risk. In this case I guess not cause they are trustpassing cutting through.

I think that people must have had softer moms than mine.

The Golden Rule should apply! On this site, I can't believe how 'some' folks think the rules apply to others, but not to them! I hear a "whine" in my head that goes something like...."but, but, but---it wasn't MY fault!" Remember in school when the teacher caught someone breaking the rules?? Sounds quite similar here at times. Why do 'some' folks think it's o.k. to cross thru someone else's property? Would it apply if the roles were reversed??? Just asking...... Oh, and I agree with Gracie!!!

Hate to be a alarmist, but working and living in urban area's when we found someone in our side yard we thought the worst, in this day and age how do you know that they are not casing out your home or worse looking to harm someone just beacuse you live in the villages and think what they are saying is true. call the sheriff don't put your saftey at risk.

:gc: 99% of TV residents wouldn't even think about walking or biking through somebody's yard. Then there is the 1%! Logic would say that one walking or biking is doing it, at least somewhat, for exercise and would take the long way to wherever instead of a short cut across someone's private yard. Obviously, logic doesn't apply. A small sign makes sense to me----something like the signs I see on golf course property where people are going onto private property to retrieve golf balls. People are interesting.

I didn't think your post was negative. Matter of fact, I think I may agree with you, in part at least. Between my home and the Colony Plaza it's 0.36 of a mile, but I have to go about 1.7 miles or more to actually get there on my mobility scooter... and I don't even have to cut through anyone's yard to get there. It would have been nice to have a golf cart trail running along the Lake Co. like from Hadley to the Plaza, but... c'est la vie, it is what it is!

I think that I put my response about my mom (actually my grandmother who raised me) telling me to stay out of people's yards in your post and it may have seemed like I disagree with you but I don't.

I think that there are lots of ways that the streets could have been layed out differently and probably the rec centers could have had better access.

I think sidewalks everywhere would have improved this place too And sidewalks between lots at times leading to rec centers and all landscaped would have helped. Maybe, maybe not, I am not an urban design expert.

I didn't really MIND that people cut through. It is when they cut through and let their dogs poop and didn't clean it up. And this mostly happened when we were snowbirds and away and we paid extra for the lot to back on Odell. I don't understand about the well to do areas. All areas have about the same design of streets meandering around, don't they?

This comment doesn't relate to cutting through yards in The Villages , however, when we were younger in this neighborhood in Vermont and all of the trees, shrubbery and other landscaping hadn't matured enough to create a "boundary" between one acre and half an acre lots (properties), it was our pet peeve when not only did people cut across our back yard, but actually SIT DOWN WITH THEIR KIDS and have a snack in our back yard.

Everyone, back then......cut through everyone's property to get to the next street.....or to wherever they were going.

Years later, when we put our inground pool in......and fenced all around.........the young moms would hang over our fence and strike up a conversation, with their little ones drooling to dive into the pool..........i guess it's done all over.

Now, fences, and such prevent that......shrubbery, etc.
Fences make for good neighbors........

We still have the dog owners who think our front lawn is their dog's potty, even with our dog poop sign down by the mailbox on the road.

However, in full explanation..........this had all been apple orchards and people were used to walking their dogs, etc. and taking hikes up the hills , etc.........prior to 1970 when the new homes began going in........

Our own kids, as they grew from babies to school age, along with their friends.........all knew which properties to cut through as "short cuts" to get down into town to the library or the movie theatre, etc........they called it "The pine trail"......but some of it was through folks' backyards...

So, we've been on both sides of the situation.......and there are still wide open trails up here which border some newer homes....but are still woods and edges of farmland.......and people do walk on it.

That gets my vote. :thumbup:
