By that I mean that if play is free, who does the maintenance? Someone has to charge to maintain and repair the machines. If it's pay to play then its not an issue.

Many years ago I ran a small pinball route in Brooklyn.

It doesn't have to be free. You could set it up like they had in the 70's - 25 cents for 1 game, 50 cents per three games. Anything that was built in that era has the capacity to accommodate that. Quarters only.

Most machines won't need regular fixing or tweaking, so the money made from the machines that are in consistently good condition, can cover the costs to repair the ones that sometimes need a little more love.

Pin Ball Business Model for the Villages

(And I know in the pandemic, things you have to touch to play are not a good idea. But my question stands just for fun, discussion, and future reference. :) )

If the Villages could open a pin ball rec room they might follow the business model of the Silverball Pinball Museum located in Delray Beach Florida. They charge $12. an hour for unlimited play on any of their 88 pinball machines, and 24 arcade games. Conceptually the admission fee would pay for employees, maintenance and electric overhead. If located near one of the Country clubs they might even get an uptick in food sales as well.

Yes, there is considerable skill required to be a world-class player. You need great eye hand coordination and with the newer electronic machines, you also need an understanding of the rule set. It's not simply a matter of hitting the balls around the playfield. You also have to know the sequence of accomplishments needed to score the big points and/or get to the end game. There are newer games out there that are so complicated that only the quite experienced players know the rule set.

Always remember, pinball players have balls of steel.......

I remember an Archie game (of the Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, and Judhead variety). It had a "looping" flipper pin near the lower left, and if you hit it JUST right, the ball would catch the curve, come around again, and you could flip it again. If you caught it -just- JUST right - you could do this indefinitely. It was a 10-point curve with a bonus if you got 5 in a row. I was able to get it most of the time, and it was fun just to see how many times I could flip it into the loop until I missed. If you waited too long, you'd lost the ball down the hole. If you flipped at the wrong second, it wouldn't catch the loop and would just shoot up higher onto the game board.

I think my personal record was 40 times before I got tired of the loop and wanted to go on to the next challenge.

Play on your ipad, android, or other device by downloading Pinball Arcade from the app store. My son was a developer there for a while.

WOW! Finally a post to respond to that will only bring cheer. Been waiting a while to create my first post. With 17 pinball machines, I’ve been contemplating moving to The Villages for 7 years getting older with each one. Latest excuse is Covet. Prior excuse was being single. Here’s my fantasy:
1) I’m just moving into my new house in The Villages
2) My moving truck arrives with all (?) my pinball machines
3) Neighbors are outside to see the new arrival in town
4) My pinball machines are being unloaded from the truck and into my new home.
5) Then my cars (how many can I take with me) are unloaded from the vehicle transport truck
6) I can hear the neighborhood guys saying to their other half, “Honey, I’ll be back in about 6 hours. I’m gonna hang with the new guy on the block”.
7) There! I’ve made new friends.
BTW: When I suggested that I bring my pinball machines with me, my realtor said that no one would want to play such childish games. I guess we’ve’ arrived!!

YES! Please move here and bring all your pinball machines!

You would be surprised at how much TLC is needed on the machines. Especially those that are 50+ years old. No one wants to play a machine where a bumper doesn't work properly or a flipper is weak.

Go visit the arcade museum in Daytona. Has most from 70s thru 90s. Plays era music. Flat price around $20 per person for as many games as many times you want. My nephews and I had blast. Wok a wok a wok a . . .

Do any of you go to the shows in Allentown or York each year? Maybe we know each other by face?

That was one of my favorite games. There is a pinball place in Tavares. Haven't been there but have been wanting to go: Arcade | IPinball | United States

I’ve been a pinball wizard since I was 14. The restaurant I worked at had an arcade in the back. I had an arcade in a back room in one of our video stores. We had 6 machines & they swapped out one for a different one every month.

Which do you have?

Maybe we should start a club - to get us some “Village Cred”. Then maybe they would give us some space! Ideally next to “The World of Beer” or similar... 👍🏻😎
