I have enjoyed Plantation Shutters for years, they are currently all through the home I am selling and I intend to refit whatever resell home I buy in TV when my year lease is up with Plantation Shutters. One item I learned quickly is purchasing from the DIY outlets can save you a HUGE amount of cash! They are not that hard to install and the instructions for measuring windows for Plantation Shutters is a snap with a digital laser measuring tape.

Yes, they will keep the sun out and will lower the temperature in the house. We had Lowes put ours in; the guy who came out to measure the windows was the same person who installed them. We were very pleased with their work.

I used a company that was recommended by a friend. Mine do not have the ability to close in the down position, only up. That prevents them from blocking the sun so, no. Mine do not serve as light blockers. I’ve also had a problem with the screws popping out and had the company come back for adjustments. They ended up removing them and I had paper shades for 2 weeks. The screws still pop out. I don’t want to bash the company I used, but if I had to do it again I would buy them elsewhere.

I love my plantation shutters. They darken the rooms and keep out a huge amount of sun and heat. They are adjustable in both directions, meaning you can flip the slats up or down. You will see tiny slivers of light at the seams, but they are thicker and larger than miniblinds so room is darker overall. For complete black out in bedroom, use with blackout drapes that extend beyond the top and sides. We used Dress Up Your Window just off of 44 on way to Leesburg. Wonderful family business, high quality products, numerous choices of sizes, colors, and styles. They also did our motorized garage and lanai screens which are awesome. They do all kinds of window treatments like cornices, etc.

We wanted high quality at a good price...we love our excellent shutters from... Shutter Professionals. They control light and heat too. Some light is of course visible... enjoy them!

If you flip them up it will keep the room dark - not down

No they do not keep the light out. They look great but not great in bedrooms in my opinion

We love our plantation shutters. We sleep during the day and the shutters keep out enough light that drapes were not necessary. Joy Blinds installed ours.
Our wide slats close up or down. We had the shutters installed outside of the windows, rather than on the inside so I could open 'in' the windows for cleaning. Super great install job! The cat does miss her window ledges though. There is only a small magnetic latch holding them shut, so we are searching for a shutter latch for strong storms. Ideas welcome and yes, a drill and a nail would work, just not my style. |
We used Home Depot when they had a sale on Shutters, plus they gave a Veteran’s Discount a year ago this month. We covered all windows and three sliding glass doors. The only one that needed curtains with the shutters was the front bedroom facing West. We even have the shutters on our garage window. We have the up and down wide ones. Love them.

Can you give me the two names of the companies and the prices Thanks Diane

Do it Yourself
Recently did all windows except the garage for a Begonia (8 windows) for under $3,000. Easy assembly required. Each window required seven holes to be drilled and seven screws installed. Less than 30 minutes per window. Blindster.com.

I had them installed when I first moved in. Love them. So much better than curtains. So many options for letting light in or keeping it out. Very little maintenance--only occasional dusting.
