I see....I guess I was reading a previous post and they said it too like one month or more to get the shutters installed. I was thinking that he measured after you moved in and then had to wait a month for them. My mind was on one track and apparently not the right one!! I get it now. I'm glad shutters can be installed right after moving in.....The mind is a terrible thing to lose!!

Oh... Now I understand what you were thinking. Yes... It takes a month from the time you order them, but you will order them when you are in TV with the design team. I called Rick before we came to town. He must have written down the date because he called me EXACTLY the the time we were on the road to "The Pink House" and asked if we would meet him at a house he had done to see his work! I had already seen his wonderful shutters but we wanted to see more! They were so striking!

He did want to know how we were decorating our home. For example, my home wouldn't look right with WHITE shutters like my girlfriends because we aren't doing the light and bright. So he showed me a Bisque that was PERFECT! Also... the home we looked at was decorated much like mine and she had the bisque installed in her home. *sigh* Beautiful!!!

My house came with shutters throughout. If it hadn't, I'm sure I would have installed them as I love the look and convenience of them.

Did anyone do shutters and valance or other window treatment too? Probably overkill....

We did!

The drapes are not functional, just a window dressing...On previous posts I published pictures but have since deleted...Will send new pics.

I have sheer curtains on living room window only - they just hang at the sides to soften the look a little. Never closed. When I go away, I always loop them up over the rod to prevent possible destruction by the cats.

plantation shutters

I love my shutters. I wish I had them all over my house.

I wish Swimdawg would show some pictures of the inside of her spectacular home. It is GORGEOUS!!!!

Happinow 01-14-2012 03:59 PM

Ok Swimdawg, Gracie is bragging on you. We would love to see pics of beautifully decorated homes. Everyone here has been so helpful to us new builders. I feel leaps and bounds ahead of those who aren't on this forum for answers to new build questions.:bigbow:

I love my plantation shutters. I was wary of the light issue, but I have found there is no problem. Unlike Michigan - there is more than enough light in Florida even with window coverings.

The other difference between up north and down here is that there is so much more dust!. I'm in a new neighborhood so I'm hoping this will change once the building slows down but I think some of it is pollen so it may be something I have to learn to live with.

Because of the dust, I really think shutters are a cleaner option. I might have to dust them frequently, but at least they are clean. Curtains would be another issue. I also put in wood floors and am really happy with that decision for the same reason.

You don't need to do the same treatment in every room. I have plantation shutters in the front of the house, blinds in the guest rooms. Plantation shutters are more expensive than blinds. Curtains would probably be less expensive, but that would depend on what you chose.

Check out Joy's Blinds & Draperies on Hwy 301 in Wildwood. Helpful people, good service and good prices.

Shutters

Shutters are ordered from Rick for the entire home minus the Garage.

As Angie said you have to look at your paint and then the shutters to pick the color.

In Angies home the beige was a perfect match., I thought so in ours but when Rick came to visit, Ruthie and him over ruled. Our paint worked better with white.

Also you have to pick traditional with handles or not, which way they open and on large windows, Bar or no Bar.

And no two window openings are the same.

So its more fun to flash the neighbors at night for a couple of weeks while you wait for your new products to get ordered.:)

If I could figure out how to put iPhone photos in an album, I'd do it.....but I really don't know how to do it.

Whenever I send a photo to Gracie, I need to call in the nearest Physical Therapist for her because my pictures arrive crooked...or is it crocked??!! :)

Maybe when I'm there in Feb, I can get Pooh or someone help me post pictures????
