Is that what happened? I am done with the Villages News. I wish someone would start a new online news. The new moderators are completely ridiculous with what posts they cancel. Posts with nothing at all bad in them. I guess just posts they don’t like. When news sources start deciding what truth is rather than allowing open discussions we are becoming more like China and Russia.
Plus, the reporting is childish at times (drama headlines and house prices to name a few) and irresponsible at others (reporting on what is in someone’s facebook page even when they are having a tough time about something - perhaps legal but overly intrusive, giving locations of people when not really adding to the story) |

Seems like continued censorship to me. We all know that main stream media is bought and paid for. Facebook and Google edit and filter what we see. Now TOTV... Free Press is intended to allow citizens to communicate freely . Without it we lose the ability to compile individual stories, experience, or thoughts into governmental trends or other noteworthy social or political conditions.
Rumor has it that When Ben Franklin was asked what kind of government we had been given he replied ‘A Republic, if you can keep it’. Seems to me as though we are choosing to lose it. We are choosing or at least accepting more and more Socialist ideologies. Go ahead and censor this post if you must, yet another example of what this country is turning into. |

I think the moderators would prefer to keep TOTV focused on issues that relate to Village life. I do agree with you on political discussions, as I enjoy them too. Problem is politics divides people and debate can quickly turn angry and hurtful. I’ve seen that on here. So that’s what the mods are trying to guard against.

It is almost impossible to avoid anything political. If the only topics allowed are subjects like “who makes the best pizza” “where can I get my hair cut” etc, etc, I doubt there will be many visiting the site.

When everything is politicized these days, wearing masks, funding our mail system, going to Church even, how can you tell people no political posts?

Hey folks ... simple answer. If you want political discussion start your own political forum. There are dozens of free and very low price software packages and websites (Discord for one) or even Facebook that can easily be configured as you want. You can then go off and see how easy it is to run it without being hijacked by wackos from all sides. You just need to provide hosting. Just keep it out of here. This is not "the press", it's a privately owned forum and there is no "right to free (uncensored) speech" here.
I remember the old supposedly anonymous "political" section here when we moved down here 3 1/2 years ago. It was disgusting. It was racist, misogynous, vile and any other adjective you can think of. People THOUGHT they were anonymous but, I guess due to some bug in the config here, when it was read using an phone app like TAP-A-TALK the actual user names showed up. It was quite interesting to see who was behind those posts. Many messages from that forum can be read using "The Internet Archives" aka "Wayback Machine" with a little effort. It became quite scary to see some of the stuff that was written here and especially knowing who posted it. Luckily those sites don't "unmask" the posters.

Problem on this and other online sites is that there is not discussion. They turn into insults, innuendos, attacks on individuals, posting of half truths to match what ever side you lean to and a total lack of following logical fact based information. Most supposed discussions on TOTV descend into the abyss within 2 -4 replies. Becoming more and more disconnected from most topics and using it as a classifieds look up.
