What does a Resident 65+ Hunt/Fish certificate cover and where do I get it?
Florida residents age 65 or older only need a Florida Driver License or Identification Card to prove residency and age. They are not required to purchase the following recreational licenses and permits:

Saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing and hunting licenses
Snook, lobster, deer, management area, muzzleloading, turkey, archery, crossbow, *Florida waterfowl, and migratory bird permits.
The Resident 65+ Hunt/Fish certificate is available, at no cost, online at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com, or at local county tax collectors office, but it is not a required item.

While a license is not required for resident seniors, they should keep proof of age and residency in their possession while participating in these activities.

* The exemption does not apply for the federal duck stamp or tarpon tags.

Last yr. I called the DNR & they said since I was a senior I didn’t need a license, it’s FREE. Just show your drivers license. I was asked to see my ID one time & all they said was, “Have a good day”. Is this a new law that you can’t fish in Florida’s fresh waters. Or is this a Villages law!

I’m not sure what “new law” you are asking about. You need a license to freshwater fish, unless you meet the exemption requirements, such as age, are fishing on property you own, etc. Not everyone in The Villages is 65+.

No, the law I’m talking about is seniors fish for FREE. Yes I am over 65 but the comment I was referring to was the original comment said you have to have a fishing license to fish in fresh water, that’s what the original question was saying. All I said was you can fish in fresh water for FREE if you’re a senior. Aren’t you saying what I was saying in my comment. Not arguing, just saying that’s what a senior (free) fishing license is for, fishing I fresh water, not salt water!
