???? - Regulation lap pool is 75 feet. In a 40 foot pool you will be turning every few strokes, not good. I either swim laps in the regulation length sports pools or use a super swim pro to swim in place in our 24 foot long pool at our home. With the super swim pro, you can swim forever and go nowhere. It is basically a fiberglass pole that goes into a cleat in the swim deck. Attached to the end of the pole is a rope with a belt on the end. You put the belt around your waist and swim. It is kind of like you are attached to a fishing pole, except by a belt and not a hook in your mouth. The faster you swim, the more the pole bends, and when you slow down but are still swimming, the pole retracts and you go a little backwards. You can basically swim forever and go nowhere. It is a great workout in a small pool. And to do backstroke, you simply spin the belt around 180 degrees and start swimming on your back. Vey cool device for a great home workout.

Do you have a link to something like this by any chance? Has anyone had it installed? We are trying to decide on the type/size of the pool we plan to build ...

Go to Superswim.com

We have one installed in the deck by the edge of our pool and I use it just about every day (T & D installed the deck cleat when they built our pool). Our pool is 12 x 24 and the swim pro is installed in the shallow end. When I am swimming the rope and belt put me about in the middle to slightly toward the deep end of the pool. I prefer to swim laps in the sports pools, but some days I just use the swim pro. I love doing a quick 20 minute swim before going golfing to loosen up all the old achy joints. Once you have one installed in your pool there is never an excuse for not swimming every day.
