Default Where does it go?

Just watched our bin men chuck all the waste, and recycling bags on the same dumpster?
Is it seperated at the tip?
Or is recycling just a myth, and it all goes into the landfill?

What village are you in?

Is this the first time you noticed this event?

In CDD#9 ours is always picked up separately. Recycling bags must be clear plastic or they will be picked up with the regular waste bags.

In order to collect both on the same trip garbage trucks have two separate compartments, one for trash and one for recycling.

From several articles that I have read over the past several years, the bottom has fallen out of the recycling market, leaving local govts with all the costs and virtually no revenues. Ergo ,according to the sources, much of the Stuff just gets comingled and ends up in the regular land fills. I do not know if this is correct--does anyone have more complete info?

Where we live in Brookhaven Town on Long Island we can no longer co mingle recyclables. We are back to separating paper from plastic. Our notice from our Garbage Company stated that elevated levels of contamination have collapsed the single stream recyclable markets.
You can not recycle glass at all. Reason stated in newspaper is because China is no longer accepting our recycled glass.

Not on this truck. All in same place.

Caroline, and first time I have seen it go all in one truck, but I am very seldom in when they call, so cannot say if it is a regular, or one off occurence.

Our recyclables are picked up by a secone truck usely 3 or 4 hours later. If it's not in a clear bag and the bag is black or white they won't pick it up.

The Villages is a big place. 1. What village do you live in? 2. Which company picks up the trash/recycle?
That does not happen in Tamarind Grove - two trucks are used by Jacobs (formerly CH2MHill).

No one has answered the question, "where does it go?" Just because it is picked up in a separate truck doesn't mean that it doesn't end up in the landfill.

Summerhill is usually picked up by two separate trucks but I was looking out the window one week when the regular trash truck took everything. Made me wonder, too.
