Default Power Wheel Chair in The Villages

I will be renting a home in The Villages for the month of March. I have difficulty walking and am trying to decide what to do. I will have a car and a golf cart. Should I bring my power wheel chair? Do you use a power wheel chair on the sidewalk or golf cart path? I love using the golf cart. I am in physical therapy and hope to be better by March, but there are no guarantees. Can I manage in The Villages basically on my own if I am not completely mobile?

I am not sure. I see that you have been renting here since 2012. I think your own assessment of your abilities would be valid. I am sure you realize that a slower moving vehicle on a golf cart might be dangerous.

No car

Hi Phantom,
I will be renting at The Villages in Belvidere with just a gas cart and no car. I figure I can rent a car when I need one. Do you do okay with just a golf cart?

To my knowledge, there is nothing preventing you from using a power wheel chair on the Multi-Modal paths, which some incorrectly refer to as "golf cart paths". I've seen possibly a dozen people using motorized chairs in various parts of The Villages, both on sidewalks and the MMP's.

You can use a motorized chair in the paths, but the sidewalk really is preferable (and safer).

With tools such as a walker or chair, you should be able to get around pretty much as you’d like. I doubt you could rent a cart that could accommodate a motorized chair, but any of them should be able to fit a regular chair and I’m sure people would be more than happy to assist you in loading/unloading. The biggest problem with a motorized chair would be the length of time getting anywhere and visibility after dusk.

Here’s hoping your mobility improves before March and that you have a wonderful visit regardless.
