Pros and Cons to living next to a Rec Center
Looking for pros and cons of living next to a Rec Center. Wondering about Pickleball and pool noise. Can you hear The Villages radio station/music playing, specifically at the Family Pools?

PBall noise ain't good.
Have not heard about pool noise. Maybe parking lot lights. Spend some time around one.

A friend of mine camped out by the golf course when they were looking to buy a lot on the course. Did not buy.
Spend a few hours parked next to the center and see if you like it. |

If the Rec center includes a family pool, it could get noisy at school vacation times. Even the sports pools can get noisy during water volleyball games and water aerobics.

You are right but there are some pluses. Our first Villages home in Hadley abutted the Odell Family pool and had a low stone wall that separated our yard from the shuffleboard courts. There was noise from the kids playing and pickleball (When inside I couldn't hear it but I wear hearers) It was nice to just squeeze through the lovely foundation plantings that The Villages maintains and go swimming at the pool. We loved it and the people who bought it from us enjoy it too. When their little grandkids come, they hop over the low wall and go swimming with their grands.

You need to go sit in the parking lot with the windows open early AM when pickle ball starts. Personally it bothered me enough that I declined purchasing a home close to it. It starts real early and is pretty loud. The pool not so much. It can be noisy when kids are around but is usually later and limited to school vacations and summer time. Pickle ball is every day of the year.

Dad can't hear anything. He would be great with having the pool by him, plus that adds a guest bathroom.

I agree with the others. This is decision is too important. You need to see for yourself. It's kinda like road noise. Some find it offensive, some say it's nothing.

Played Hill Top Wednesday, and the noise from that radio blaring out at the CC Pool was enough to drive anyone nuts!!
I asked the bloke in the starters hut what he thought of it. " You get used to it" he said "a bit like pain actually!" |

Pro: Many additional bathrooms available close by, for most of the day!

I have noticed that many rec centers like Burnsed in Osceola Hills have the pickelball courts situated away from the houses.
However, the new De Luna rec center being built in the Southers Area will have the pickelball courts just a few feet from from the nearby house lots. Other than that, the new lots will, in our opinion, be very desirable, but I wonder if the potential new home owners will be aware of the noise that will come from the courts. |

When we bought our second home there was a house with bigger garage, and extended bedrooms, however it was three houses from pickleball. In the house you could hear the constant noise. We bought at the other end of the street, smaller bedrooms and garage, but much quieter. It something you need to decide by sitting at the home

I live behind a regional center and the courts are across the parking lot. When inside my house, I do not hear any noise. If I am on my lanai, you can hear the noise (usually only in the morning when the courts are busier), if you listen for it, otherwise, I don't hear it. The noise from the pool which is basically behind my house can be heard occasionally if you are outside but it isn't offensive. From my perspective, it's better to have a rec center behind me with more open space than another house 20 feet off my lania. We never regretted our decision to buy here.
