The eastern trip generally started with a stop at Utz's (all trips included Utz's) and then east to Lititz for the chocolate. Wilbur's Buds are the greatest chocolate treats in the world and put Hershey's Kisses to shame. Then it was on to Hi-way 340 and the Amish run. Mandatory stops were Bird in Hand and Intercourse. The cheeses, jellies, baked goods, and meats were sensational. The sausages and especially the pepper bacon were so much better than anything you could get in the DC area. And there was this little grocery on Hi-way 10 on the way home, easily missed, that had the most delicious apple pie --- I'm salivating now - I hope the Arts & Crafts show has funnel cake.

And all that relatively country driving, with a book on tape running, was so relaxing, so great once one left the DC area. Y'know, Lititz, PA does not run (or need) a traffic copter on Saturday afternoon!

oh, to stay on topics, I like Publix too, but I miss having Albertson as a change of pace.

Gracie, these Amish towns are real close to Paradise, but luckily they're a ways from Blue Ball.

I was up there a couple years ago and bought jams and jellies for my neighbors here at Intercourse Canning Co. (http://www.intercoursecanning.com/ if you want to order something)

Anyway, when I returned, one of my neighbors was on her lanai and I yelled to her, "Hey Anne, I was in the middle of Intercourse last week and thought of you, so here's a present." Her hubby and the other neighbors almost lost it laughing.

Bird In Hand....brought up the memory of trying scrapple for the first time. It's okay, but an acquired taste....however, I digress.

Publix house brand of yogurts and cottage cheese are also very good, and I'm using more of their house brands in pasta and some canned goods. Haven't been disappointed so far.

My husband's cousin practically lives in Publix (Miami). Everytime he comes home, his wife says "but you forgot the ......"

Fresh Salsa.. YUM YUM!!

Italian 5 Grain Bread

Publix Favs:
Sourdough 12 grain bread, sliced thin.
Honeycrisp apples, in season.
Mr. Pepper (can't buy it here in Canada).

I like the little cooking demos that Publix does. Real simple recipes, good food. And often there's one in the front and a guy cooking meat in the back. It ain't quite like Stew Leonard's in CT where one can get a full meal of samples, but the drive's a helluva lot shorter.

Oh Muncle you made me homesick. Quite often we would drive to Lancaster just for Shoo Fly Pie. Regarding UTZ's chips I've even checked their website, but I thought it would be crazy to order potato chips.

That's funny about the Utz potato chips. When we lived in Miami in the 70's was the first time I ever saw Utz. At Winn Dixie, I think. Fell in love with them, then couldn't find them when we moved back to NY. I see them only occasionally now.

Being from southeast MI, I miss Meijers. Years before we had Wally Worlds super stores, Meijers was the one stop grocer in Mi. Hiller's and the Holiday Markets are top ranked speciality stores comparable to Trader Joe's.

This is my first "response", hope I am doing it right! My husband and I bought a house in the Village of Amelia this year, but have a few years before we can be at TH full time. We were there in April, and we found wonderful fresh pizza dough at Publix. It was in the cooler case by the deli. Yum! We had pizza three times that week, ha ha! We'll be down again in September, I sure hope they still carry it.

This might be a big help to you. I found a website that will save you money if you shop at Publix. It is publix4pennies.com Check it out. It teaches you how to coupon including explaining what coupon barcodes mean. Ii also lists all coupons and in-store deals available.

Win-Schuler's cheese spread is available at Publix for those from the mid-west that miss it. Got hooked on it when we lived in Michigan. Nothing like it and you will love it!
