One lady handled this very situation very well in an exercise class when another came in a said to her, "You need to move. This is my spot." The "offender" firmly, but politely told her, "Not today, it's not", and stayed put. End of problem and discussion.
Instructors are in charge of classes and need to know when problems arise, if someone continues with unacceptable behavior. They can and will handle it.
