I was shocked to find that out. They've built a village five miles from The Villages. We're all supposed to have equal access to all the amenities but you'd have to live in Fenney in order to use this unless you want to take a long walk to get there.

It's at least a half mile from the parking area. Then you're on your feet all the time that you're playing and then another half mile back to your car. This seems to be unfair to the rest of us Villagers.

I also have a complaint about when we go to play Red Fox and Grey Fox. When residents of Fenney come to the mainland to play golf, they are given a cart free of charge. But when those of us that live north of Rte 44 go down there to play, we have to pay for a cart. I realize that
they're trying to sell houses in Fenney, but it wouldn't hurt them to be fair to the rest of us.

Most of the residents of Fenney do not have golf carts and live farther away from the putt and play than the parking area so it's not unfair at all, we all have to walk at least that distance. It won't be long before the DeSoto family rec. center is open and parking there will be a little closer to the putt and play. The biggest problem I see will be for the homeowners that are very near to the course as there will constantly be people parking on their streets instead of the parking area, you can't park on Fenney Way as there are cart lanes but the side streets are public and I'm sure they will be well used. There will also soon be a pitch and putt course that I'm sure will be very popular down here. The latest word from the family is that there will be cart access across 44 by next March and that will change things significantly.

You really haven't been paying attention to what is going on down in CDD-12 have you? There are more courses going in in that area, three executive courses are under construction in the Desoto/McClure area, championship courses have been shown on the plans for the area north of 468 west of the turnpike and south of 468 east of the turnpike. What little they are showing is enough to keep things going without tipping their hand too much as to what is to come. It doubtful that they'll change too much from a plan that has been one of the most successful development plans in the country.

With what they are showing and how they are growing The Villages, we'll all be looking back and saying "Remember when there were only 648 holes, how did we get by with less than 1000?"

If you consider the "Pitch & Putt" (re: undersized executive courses) to be equivalent, good luck. I've seen the plans you mention. Golf is becoming downsized in these areas.

From the post I see, the putt an play in Fenney is popular. More of them need to be built in the older section of the Villages to make more access for more people. It will cut down on driving, wait times, parking issues. More is better in this case. Folks need to start pushing to get more built.

Personally I don't see that happening, that TV would build another putter course. It was partially built to entice people to buy over at Fenney. But yes, it would be nice!

The developer only shows to the public what they have to to get their plans approved and keep their business moving forward. Southern Oaks is still in the early stages of development. What has been shown and platted is about 3,000 homes out of 28,000.

The Villages Magazine has its typical real estate insert.

The current March edition provides many details about upcoming development. Attached is the 2-pace center spread. Other pages in the insert provide greater detail about the areas shown with the brown circles.

Putt and play

Went to Fenney today to try the putt and play. It soon became obvious that villagers not living in Fenney are discouraged from playing there. No vehicle parking within 1/2 mile, only golf cart parking. If that is the design of putt and play courses, then I am not a fan of them. No handicap accessibility except via golf cart, not that I am handicapped, but I am a supporter of making everything accessible to them.

I would like to see a short game practice area simular to the one at Sarasota be built north of 466 rather than a putt and play. Just a wish.

Interesting. If you are a Villages resident you can rent a golf cart for $3 to play executive golf in Fenney. Can you park your car at the executive courses at Fenney pay $3 for a cart and drive to the put and play ?

There is an interesting putting course at Palmer, near the Riley starter shack. If it isn’t reserved for little tournaments it is available to anyone. There are driving ranges at both Lopez and Palmer, and short game practice areas at both, though the Palmer areas may be reserved for lessons.

Doc, you have some fake news here:

1. You do not have to walk half a mile. The Villages is allowing parking right across the street (yes it is on dirt) until they figure out something better. I know this is true as I parked there last week along with 15 or so other cars.

2. The only FREE cart Fenney residents get north of 44 is at Country Club Championship Courses, since they have none in Fenney and no way to drive a cart from there. If they come up to play Executive Courses, they have to rent a cart at the nearest CC or walk. They pay for it.

3.It's the same distance both directions, so when it comes to equal access, it's fair to all.
