I have Quantum Fiber. I pay $30 a month for life and I get 200Mbps consistently, but most of the time over that. We run two computers and multiple TVs and that seems to be plenty of speed. We had Centurylink before that, but found out that Quantum bought Century's fiber business. When we had them, we were told we would get 900+Mbps and never achieved that speed. Before that, we had Xfinity and they kept raising their monthly charge until we were paying over $240 a month for Internet and TV. Now we stream via Roku sticks and get reliable streaming with great quality. Since we have Quantum at $30 a month, they have asked us several times if we would like to upgrade to 500?Mbps for $50. Don't need it. 200Mbps seems to be more than enough. We have had company and had three TV's streaming, two computers and the kid's tablets with no buffering.
Today, Quantum does not offer $30 a month. But we are locked in and have been for a couple years. Can't beat it.

With Fiber you get those same great download speeds for uploads as well. With cable (coax) you will get maybe 20-30 Mbps on uploads.

I have had it since February. No complaints. No outages. Very happy.

RIpswich 06-28-2024 01:13 PM

Switched to Quantum 3 months ago. Very happy with Quantum.

My deal is $50/month for life for 500 MBS with three Wi/FI 6 mesh router ports which includes the router. Great coverage.

The hook is that if one changes any component of the system, for example upgrading to 1 Gig, you loose the "for life" guarantee.

They used the original Century Link optical cable that came with the house, removed the C/Link ONT in my garage and installed their own ONT. He had to fiddle with the in-house (4 wire) telephone cable to activate a second pair of wires to carry the faster speed signal from the ONT.

I am located South of 466 and north of 44. If you have, or had, Century Link, Quantum will eventually contact you to upgrade you to their equipment and charges.

Try it, you can always cancel.

I am correcting myself Century Link did put in fiber optic north of 466 (I had it in Santiago) but do not have fiber optic in Bonnybrook.

I'm north of 44 & south of 466A & I have Quantum fiber.

Make sure the service is available at your house, it's not available everywhere. I live up north and have had 970 m/b fiber delivered right into my office via fiber. We have had the service for 6 years and have never had an outage.
I believe they usually offer 200-300 m/b for that price and 970m/b now for $70/mo no taxes.

Here are the facts:

1) Fiber gives you the same speed bi-directionally meaning if they say 1GBS then you get this speed both upload AND download. Cable only gives you the advertised speed on the download. Upload is generally about 30MBS, very slow.
2) With cable systems your internet is Shared meaning you and your neighbors Share the bandwidth on the same cable infrastructure which is why speeds will vary at peak times. With Fiber you have your own dedicated link and the speed never changes.
3) Because cable companies deliver TV content, they have to pay franchise fees to the content providers which always go up. This is why cable prices always increase because they have to pass these increases on to all of their customers. Even if you have a "deal" from cable, you can still get one of these increases. Some say "I'll renegotiate every year to get a deal" but unless you have an alarm set, the cable companies will automatically charge you full price at the end of the "deal" and by the time you realize it, you will have paid the increase.
4) Cable systems use old obsolete copper infrastructure thats vulnerable to lightning and can bring unwanted induced power surges into your home's electric system. Fiber is glass cable without any of these issues.
5) Because Fiber uses light on glass fibers it doesn't require power in most of it's distribution network like cable. In a severe storm if we get local power disruptions, Fiber will usually stay active where the local power disruptions will take out your cable.

Bottom line, if you can get Fiber internet service from any company here in the Villages, get it. Cable is old fashioned, more unreliable and is usually ripping you off.

Just realized the lightning surge possibility through my cable line the other day and put on a cable surge protection device. Good to know.

I highly doubt stock equipment that is from the provider is getting that speed, typically their equipment deliver about 1/4 - 1/3 of the 'advertised speed'

I don't believe it. I went on their website and their offers for The Villages is $50 for up to 500 mgs. and $75 for up to 900 mugs. Plus taxes and other fees.

Which is because they don't offer TV and other content so there are no franchise fees they need to pay.

I was surprised in my brand new house in 2022 by Sawgrass Grove, that Fiber was not already in place. I have Spectrum and only outages have been planned work at like 2:00am.

They do send out offers in the mail that are cheaper than the website prices. And the prices are including taxes and fees . We pay a flat $30 a month for 200 mps.

DBaty 06-29-2024 03:41 PM

We have Quantum Fiber and it has been outstanding. No issues with streaming and no service interruptions since we got it in April 2023. It has been more reliable that other carriers we used before moving to The Villages.

Last year we responded to a similar ad and after signing up, made our first payment and waited on them to come and install . We had an install date but no one came nor did they contact us. After quite a bit of time on the phone, they finally admitted that it wasn’t available yet for our home here in Santiago. Why they wasted our time and even took our money is beyond my imagination. Of course we got the money back after a while, but how to trust such a company after that experience!

I am paying $50. When did you sign up with them to get lower prices?

Out of the cable companies available to us here in the Villages, Spectrum is probably the most reliable and best company to deal with. But it's still a cable company subject to ever increasing franchise fees for TV content.

No internet, tv,home phone, 3 days for technician appointment

Woke up this morning and found out I had no internet service my home phone wasn't working no internet no TV. Called quantum fiber they couldn't fix my issue and said they were going to set up a technician to come. Got a text message , they won't come until the 26th which is 3 days. After significant complaining I got no place. So this is what you can expect for customer service for quantum

They usually can get a tech to the house within a day or two depending on when you call. My guess is Christmas is delaying getting to you. This is not much different than with the cable companies.

Do you have the White SmartNid installed in the garage? If so, can you tell us what color the light is? Also, since you have no service, you might want to try a hard reset. You do this by taking a paper clip and depressing the small Reset button on the SmartNid for 20 seconds. When you release it, the light will appear orange/yellow, then go red, then flashing blue then green. The reset button is next to the power plug on the side of the SmartNid. Once I woke up with the same problem and this fixed the problem. Couldn't hurt to try.
