They start to make suggestions as to how you should dress, etc. Honestly, I've gotten along very well and now they are second-guessing me.

They love you. They care for you as you cared for them when they were little. Sure, we may not require it, but I accept it as a show of love. You are fortunate.

Working on it, having some healthy discussions with kids and warning them they won’t like it when their kids do it to them. Strange though it is so common! It is unintentional disrespect, would love to hear how others handle it.

Why not just smile and hug them. They are showing they care for and love you.

Nursing Homes are just money grabbers, they don’t care that much how you’re treated, they’re just interested in getting your money just as fast as they can before you die!

Paying 6,700.00 a month for assisted living (All meals are included). If you and your widfe/husband work, and if your parent requires constant care, there is little choice but an ALF or nursing home. It is very difficult on so many levels.

You’re right but they believe in what their generation tells them to do, just like ours. But I’m not going to let my children or great grandchildren tell me to listen to rap music just because they don’t like what I listen to or tell me we have to get with their times so I’ve got to change. Actually it’s not so much our children it’s our crazy society that’s trying to tell us what we have to do. Not knocking our children, they’re 45 to 53 yrs. old. I blame our legal system, teachers & the rest of our society for the way we’re headed!

Interesting that you interpreted the question to be about things like a music style. I interpreted it as being about things involving safety. I guess we all see the world through our own sunglasses.

Oh yeah, never miss an opportunity to scapegoat and whip out that big ol' wide brush to slop toxic, monochromatic paint all over teachers. . . And then join that power-crazed crowd, carrying pitchforks and torches to go after teachers for imagined grievances, propagated by lies -- until dedicated teachers flee the profession and schools will be left with the bottom of the barrel to carry on "education."

I cannot imagine why anybody of sound mind would go into teaching now. I would advise any young person to not even consider teaching and if already in it, to get outa Dodge while they still can.

But, I digress. Back to topic now. . .whatever that was........

I told both my kids, now in their 30's, that sometimes, old people get "funny", or say strange statement, because they are no longer in the workforce, and don't keep up with day to changes in the real world, and really could care less any more. .

And my kids have said that now they understand why I said what I did when they were teenagers and in college.

good luck

Yup, so sad and true. Let's not fix a problem, let's just throw out the baby with the bath water.

It was not that long ago that countries from around the world sent representatives here to witness and learn about our:

Post Office
Public Schools
Law Enforcement
Interstate hi way system

And on and on. Then it became popular to hate on those instead of trying to fix the problems that had developed.

So, yeah, let's shut down all the public schools so we can become like every other third world country where only the rich are educated.

This post caught my attention because I had just been in a conversation with a friend about what men wear. I had commented that I had been noticing that there are some successful young men, some of whom are very high-profile, who are dressing in just a simple t-shirt and jeans. No logo. No inane slogans. No stupid statements. And certainly no political proclamations. Just a plain, well-fitting t-shirt and good looking jeans. The t-shirts are always a dark color though. A white t-shirt might make the guy look like a fugitive from the cast of “Grease”. . .

I say yay to that understated, ironically classy look if it looks good on you — no matter how old you are.
