We bought in TV because of the rules and as I show visitors around our community, I'm proud to show them where we live.

I agree. We just sold our Va. house that is in a community which enforces the reasonable rules that everybody who moves in agrees to and it is just as nice today as it was ten years ago when we moved in. It's when the rules are forgotten that the neighborhood starts to decline. It only takes a few people that think an old car up on blocks in the driveway is art to give the community a black eye.

This all reminds me of a Mayberry show of Andy Griffith where Barney Fife is lecturing some prisoners in the jail cell and says something like: Rule number 1: Obey all rules.

Pooh, I totally understand. I used to be Chairman of an island ARC. It was really hard dealing with some of them and we had to take some to court. Very unpleasant but necessary.

Rule #2 Go back to rule #1 and repeat as needed.

Reminds me, I used to have a sign near my desk at work that stated:

Rule No. 1: The boss is always right!
Rule No. 2: If the boss is wrong, see rule no. 1.

However, my employees thought they were always right anyway!

Had a boss who had a sign in his office that said: "If you don't understand it, oppose it."

That provided for some interesting discussions (and roadblocks).

I prefer:
The boss isn't always right but he's always the boss.

Default The rules, iz, the rules

We too moved to TV because of the rules. We hope the investment in our homes and lifestyle amenities will be protected by the rules we all agree to, when we purchase here.

Default wind chimes

What about wind chimes? Our neighbor, who is also the enforcer on the block, has put wind chimes in his tree which clack and clatter all day long. He made another person move their lawn ornament next to their lanai, but at least the lawn ornament is noise pollution. I know some people like the sound of clacking bamboo, or chimes, but I appreciate the quiet. Not sure what to do because it is a delicate situation. Any advice? Earplugs at night?

Tell the "enforcer" that the chimes bother the neighbors. If he doesn't take them down relieve him of his duties as enforcer!
