No complaints. Taxes are 40% below old home taxes and are capped as to how much they can go up.

As far as taxes, no one wants to pay yet everyone wants services. Perhaps, to make you feel better, we fled New York in part due to taxes. The taxes on our 1200 sq foot home on a 50x100 lot were 10,000. We also had a 6% state tax. Sales tax was 7.25%. Electricity was close to twice what it is here. I think Florida oranges were/are cheaper in New York

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence till you get there and find there are weeds there too.

What a lot of nonsense. Far as teacher's pay, every time the subject comes up, the benefit package? It is the tax payers who pay for that and it is tax free income for the teachers.

Don't blame others. For people who do not enjoy teaching they should have done something else. Like any union job it encourages mediocrity. Great teachers are told they make the others look bad

My Real Estate taxes are close to $7000 and sales tax is 8.875 percent. Florida is going to be tax heaven.

They are gonna getcha before you run. Good news your auto insurance will drop close to half. Your electricity about half. State tax will go from 6% to ZERO. No New York City tax.
Minus, NY Pizza is better. New York deli is better. New York bakeries are better. So be sure to bring New York bagles and corned beef

I don't understand the grimace comment then...
Sumter Co Taxes lower than Lake or Marion
millage rates went down this year.
Schools need money to pay the teachers. Although us tax payers should have input to the content that is presented to the children. NO BLMBS!! NO CRTBS!! NO REVISED HISTORY!

I think I said it in my comment, the bank already has the money for it because I have given it to them. Last year it went down $25 so if it goes up a little, no big deal. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

We pay a lot less than we did in Tampa (Hillsborough County).

davem4616 11-09-2021 05:32 AM

death and taxes...ya can't escape either one

when all is said and done, and I add EVERYTHING up, our experience has been that it's pretty much a wash to live anywhere that offers decent hospitals, good school systems and low crime....and things to do

taxes might be less here...but I now drive 3 days to visit family vs. 20 minutes....

The problem is when Randy shows up with the sherriff.

That must be why Florida has a teacher shortage in the thousands - because the pay and benefits are so great.

Don’t you vote for school board members?

There are teacher shortages everywhere. Not just in FL...

"The average Public School Teacher salary in Florida is $56,729 as of October 29, 2021, but the range typically falls between $49,525 and $65,490."

Which is more than my daughter makes in Arlington, VA...

According to her, the main problem is "job dissatisfaction", not low pay...

retiredguy123 11-10-2021 08:45 AM

Note that the many of the Lake County tax bills were not mailed out until a few days ago. Apparently, this was a mistake.

Look on the District web site to find out what the $375 is.
Some things you have to do yourself!

Fredster 11-10-2021 12:50 PM

Randy Mask….Emailed me my tax bill, and when I looked at it, I didn’t grimace,
I smiled and happily sent E-check within an hour!
Then again I’m from suburban Chicago, and I see
that some people here haven’t really experienced
high taxes.
