Do you know what they do with the cans and bottles? I had a long email exchange with someone in charge at Covanta last year and specifically asked about glass, which doesn't burn. He said there was no market for recycling glass, which seems crazy to me since it's SO recyclable. I always feel especially bad about putting bottles into the trash. I assume glass just goes into landfill somewhere. :(

Why not it came out of the ground, last time I checked sand was in abundance?

What gets me is the ads for the soda/water companies saying to recycle.

With Covanta, the glass is processed with everything else. The ash that remains at the end of the processing cycle includes the glass and that ash is used as filler in various building materials. Very little of our trash ends up in landfills.

Total Ash Processing - Covanta

Zero Waste-to-Landfill - Covanta

I don't believe that the Covanta plant in Okahumpka uses TAPS. If needed, I can check.

Covanta, where our trash is converted to energy, has regular inspections by independent, regulator-approved, third parties. Their emissions are below what is required by the Clean Air Act. Check out the technology.

Thanks!

Every quarrying can’t exists I this day with without fossil fuels.

My post had nothing to do with how long or how quick the era of fossil fuels would last. Read for main ideas, not words and details. My post was about recycling.

Yes you can take all of your typical recycling trash to the recycling center on Race Trac Road (close by). Includes glass. Open on Tuesday and Saturday. We still recycle everything and will continue as long as there are recycling centers. No big deal to take it there.
