Default rental car

Any help would be appreciated. We have never experienced this before. My wife and I are flying to our home in Hadley in Feb. We thought we could rent a car reasonable from the airport as we have done in the past. This time for some reason, the rates are very high. For a two week rental for a sub-compact it is over 1100.00 dollars. We could take the shuttle to "The Villages", but how would we get to our home, and to the rental palce in Leesburg. Ther the cost of the two week rental is $550.00. Quite a difference. Is there a taxi service? We do have friends there, but do not want to put them out. Any suggestions? shighsmi, Steve and Carol

You may have done this already, but I would get quotes from a few of the travel websites for a rental car. Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia, and Priceline would be good places to compare rates.

You might try contacting Florida Jitney. They should be able to drop you off at your home.

I know that both Hertz and Enterprise will happily pick you up for your rental and take you home when you're ready to drop the car off.

Hope this helps a little.

We were just in TV and took the shuttle to TV and then called Enterprise where we had rented our car and they came and picked us up at the shuttle station in LSL. They had told us to call when we were 15 minutes from TV. They are very busy right now and they need the time for their driver to put you on the pickup route. The driver brings you back to their location to do the paperwork and pickup the car. It is less expensive to rent once you are out of the Orlando area.

Honey and I have always had good luck with Enterprise. I just went to their site and checked a one week rental, end of January. $146 plus tax and fees=about $200.00, pick-up and return Orlando. And that was without discounts and they have a discount for everything. And they have a shuttle to take you from the airport to the lot and will help you with your luggage.

I have used Hotwire many times and saved alot. With Hotwire you pay up front and if you don't use the car you have paid for it with no refund or credit. When you book the car you don't know which rental car agency you are using till you are done booking. They only book with major car rental companys Avis, Hertz, Budget and etc.

I just booked a SUV in Indianapolis for a 3 day weekend for $65.00 it was with Hertz and I went to the Hertz website and it was $165.00.

Again you pay up front with no refund if you don't use the car.

Below is the website.

Default Car Rental

I'm coming down to TV in FEB and I'm having the same problem The car rentals are to expensive So I'm taking the bus from Orlando to SS then walking a very short distance and renting a golf cart at the place next to Publix it comes out to be less then half of what a car rental would be

A friend of mine who is presently a snowbird did this: She rented a car from Budget for one day at the airport and drove it to Budget in Ocala, turned the car in and rented one from Ocala.(She also reserved a car at the Ocala Location too - there is also one in Leesburg but she is coming down at Easter and all of their cars have been rented for that time frame). They told her she could return the car to the airport with no extra fees. She said she saved approximately $750.00 by doing this. (She was given this suggestion by a Budget Rental Car Agent). Hope this helps.

$1103. Is the cheapest rate I could find out of Orlando. Using priceline, AARP, all companies. We have never had trouble before. If I were to rent form Leesberg, It would be 550 for the two weeks. What is the number or contact for enterprise close to "The Villages"?

Default Thanks ILgolf

Followed your advice rented from airport for two days, then change at Lake Sumter. Saved at least half. They are letting me take the Village rented car back to the airport as well. That saves bus fares. Thanks.

Default Enterprise Does One Way Too

I've rented from Enterprise at the airport for a one-way for much less than the cost of the bus for the two of us. You can walk from the Enterprise office in LSL to TV Golf Carts on Main St and rent a golf cart for a lot less money than a car. If you needed a car for a day or so later on during the stay, go back to Enterprise and do a one day rental. My car sits most of the time and I use the golf cart for almost everything.
Returning to the airport costs more because they charge a drop-off fee that they don't charge when coming to TV (I don't know why). But it is still less than for 2 riding the bus.

Look for discount codes online also.
I just booked my mid-size car from alamo for May for 4 weeks for $626 total, including two drivers. As I will contunue to check rates, i'm sure this will even go down more for me...I usually pay about $110 total per week.

Frank - In May? I just checked for my timeframe 15-31 of May and couldn't find it that cheap per week. Do you have any savings codes that you could share?

I use an E-Z rental code for being a member but I'm still around $200 per week (all taxes inc.) for that timeframe. (Out of Orlando airport).

I have one booked thru Budget at Orlando airport for 14 days for $344.61 starting May 20th.
But will probably cancel it the same way I did for the one I had booked for the whole month of February. Just going to use Cliff and his car service to get me to TV then use my golf car for the time there.

The agent at enterprise told me the rates were so high because East- Coast schools get out a week for Presidents day. Even the AARP price was $11o3 for a sub compact.
