I will bite. I have a nest at Home, but not sure I would like it for a rental. What should I use in my two TV rental homes?

100.00 model the push buttons, simple. Harder for the technical challenged to screw up. Has a neat offset feature. For the temp. If you don't see the advantage of that PM me. I am not interested in the peanut gallery's comments on offset.

We have nearly new Nest in box for sale if interested. Call 914-497-2763 if interested. Bought new, had renovation done and they used a different thermostat. Used only for 3 month.

Has anybody installed an Ecobee in place of the Carrier Edge thermostat? There are the 5 wires in the wall behind the thermostat, but the Carrier Edge only uses 2 in some proprietary nonsense designed to make life difficult. Just trying to figure out how to rewire the control box by the heat pump to get the Ecobee in. The wires on the right go into the heat pump and are attached to more wires. All the necessary wires appear to be there, they just need to be reconfigured. The red and blue on the lower left run to the thermostat.

Bilyclub, we did ours last year. We used Good Guys Heating and Air (Mike) 352-805-0035, who did it at a very reasonable cost. All the wires are there, but because of the interface the previous thermostat used, I didn’t want to risk screwing it up. Extremely happy with the Ecobee. One of the best things about it is if I leave for work and forget to set the temp to a higher setting, I can do it right from my phone.

If I can find the wiring diagram for the heat pump/AC , I might try it. The unit is now over 7 years old and near it's Villages end from what I read here.

Not sure most of the current thermostats can't do that. We have a Nest, probably 4 years now and monitor and change (if necessary) from our phone, even from Germany last year. The founder of NEST was one of the developers of the first three iphones. He left (don't think it was his choice, you know how Jobs was) and started NEST then sold it to Google for 3+ billion.

Mr Coffee???? You don't have a Keurig? Mr Coffee is 1970s.

Never did see the reason for a so called smart thermostat. Ours is set at 75. Push a button if we want heat or another button for cool. We leave for an extended time, we just push the temp buttons up or down. If it's nice and the house is open, I push the off button. We saved a lot of money by not getting sucked into the "smart" technology. I know it's a lot of work pushing those buttons maybe 5 or 6 times a year, but I need the exercise.

It's not so much the algorithm stuff, but the ability to know what the temp is inside and the ability to adjust it when you're not there. Why waste energy when you don't have to.

Not sure sucked in is the right term, maybe deciding to live in the past not grow would be a better statement. My Dad was the same way, mostly because he couldn't learn the technology and always was frustrated with it. Nothing wrong with that, but to suggest that anyone that embraces new technology is sucked in, to me is a tad judgemental and rude.

I got one for free (well had to pay taxes and shipping) from my energy provider rebate program. I like it, it shows on the phone how many minutes per day cooling or heating and can change the temp with Alexa or the phone.

I have Nest thermostats in both of my houses. Had Munn’s install the one in TV. Love the functionality and and the iPhone app is terrific.
