Household Income: Data on consumer income collected by the Census Bureau covers money income received (exclusive of certain money receipts such as capital gains) before payments for personal income taxes, social security, union dues, medicare deductions, etc. Therefore, money income does not reflect the fact that some families receive part of their income in the form of non-cash benefits, such as food stamps, health benefits, rent-free housing, and goods produced and consumed on the farm.

Here's what I like the most: Go to the town square for music and dancing, restaurants for dinner, the golf course for frustration, Uh, I mean golf, or anywhere else in The Villages and you can't tell who has high income and who doesn't. You can't tell where they live, what they spend, or who they run with. It's just people having fun!

I hate to tell you but $100K doesn't allow you to live like a king anywhere in the USA including TV and I think with the cost of things now days $100K + is a reasonable income

Guess we have to be counted among the "unreasonable".....as in "poor mice" as another posted notated. We love it here and are very comfortable anyway. As many of the others have said, "who cares?". I like people for who they are...not what they have or don't have.

a couple of years ago when a long list of interesting numbers about TV was listed (someplace....I don't remember where)...it listed the average "income" in TV as $80,000.....which was a surprise to me. Statitically that is a very high number to be the AVERAGE...means littsa folks make more and lottsa folks make less.

It is a very high average number....however, I have no problem accepting it as very possible....where else do you see as many $15-$25,000 golf carts all over the place?

The beauty of TV, which I think is very unique......no matter how much you make/have, all are entitled to the SAME AMENITIES. Where else on the planet could this happen?

And when one is in their shorts and sunglasses it is real difficult to guess who has what.....and I also believe most are like me....I DON'T CARE!!!!

I think you have to remember that a large percentage (I have no idea how large, but certainly not insignificant), of owners bought here before they were retired. I think that skews the numbers.

And even if using census bureau numbers (assuming that means only Florida residents, so at least here 6 mos per year and the vast majority retired), it is subject to how people fill out a census report. Some people probably include income from investments, etc., some their partial year pre-retirement income.

Lots of people probably live on pensions, social security and however much they need to draw from IRAs in any particular year. Or just draw out dividents, which vary year to year. And lots of us early retirees aren't even drawing social security yet, or maybe even all of our pensions.

And I disagree with whomever said you can't live like a king here on $100,000. If you have no mortgage or debt of any kind, you can live very well on far less. I think I'd be hard pressed to spend $100,000, unless we did an awful lot of traveling, or had a shopping problem or something.

It may be one of the nice things about The Villages that you can't tell who is rich or who is poor except that if you look closer those rich guys are living large.

I do agree with Ohiogirl that with reasonable spending one can stretch a dime to a dollar.

Most important of course is where one places his/her emphasis. for some a large house ,etc are important. For others extensive travel. and still for others a quiet easy existence.

While the statistics at the linked website are interesting, note that their source is the census bureau and they have only data for about 10,000 households. Nowhere on the website does it explain how this subset of households was selected. In the census for zip code 32162 there are 24,911 households. This would be the full time residents as others would be listed at their address of record elsewhere.

I would suggest some "Millionaire Next Door" types own homes in The Villages, either as second or third homes or, eventually, as frogs. I have met retired dentists, airline pilots and business people there who had clearly done well financially. In my opinion most folks in The Villages (tastefully) keep a low profile rather than flash their cash. They may travel quite a bit, have expensive hobbies such as car collections, own and fly their own airplanes and more. To me it is refreshing that so many retired or nearly retired folks no longer feel the need to compete - other than some with their custom golf carts - a lot of fun for sure!

The data above is grand, but to whom does on reveal income who will thereafter reveal it??

It is not income that counts, it is your savings and total wealth. Most villagers get little income from pensions, social security etc. So, average income is not a weath indicator.
Spend it or leave it to the kids!
That said, who cares!!!
