First of all, we don't even know if this guy had a permit. The gun could have been illegal. Secondly, how often have you heard of this kind of incident or any kind of illegal gun incident occurring involving people with CCPs?

We really have no idea what went on here. There are conflicting reports and I, personally, will wait for all of the information to come out before I post an opinion. But, I will not blame this one the legions of law abiding people, the vast majority of which have no desire to ever shoot anyone, that choose to carry a firearm.

And I will not make posts inferring that this sort of event is commonplace.

Wait a minute...GOD gave them that right? I thought it was the US government. Separation of church and state and all that...

If you are going to a bar your gone should be left at home. To Target, lock it in your vehicle.

Forget for the moment about people's views on owning guns and get back to this.

What possible scenario
could have occurred on 466, this week, that could have made a motorcyclist, any motorcyclist, be justified to fire a gun at a car, any car?

It sounds like a person who has uncontrollable anger issues, no matter what the provocation. I have NEVER felt the urge to shoot at someone, EVER.

I might if someone entered my home and tried to hurt Sweetie or Helene, I would want to tear them apart, but nasty and rude driving has not been a trigger to make me take violent action. We are supposed to act like adults in a motor vehicle..

I carry a firearm and keep a firearm in all my vehicles. If Mr. Bilbus would have done to me what he is supposed to have done, he would most likely would be dead. This is not NY, anyone & I mean anyone can legally have firearm in their vehicles. I carry a firearm to prevent harm to my love ones & myself from the likes of Mr. Bilbus. Nut jobs are anywhere.

My understanding is that the constitution prohibits the government from taking away these rights. The government does not grant rights. But what's the difference? That's not what's at issue here.

My point was that the poster was blaming law abiding people who have every right to carry a gun for not having their act together and that because they don't have their act together, the government will some day take that right away.

I think that the "concealed carry people" have their act together and most of them would not want to shoot anyone.

Where the right comes from is a completely different discussion. You can believe that the government gives you rights if you want.

In life, there are a lot of things you can "legally" do. That doesn't mean you would do them. This is The Villages, Florida. No one needs to carry a gun!! Especially if you are a senior citizen. You're responses (reflexes) are not what they used to be. You're eyesight is not what it used to be. You're reasoning is not what it used to be.
This is a safe community where you do not need to fear for your life. If you are moving here from a dangerous area where you needed protection...get over it! You are here now and you do not need protection. If you have the mindset that you will carry because you can...then maybe move somewhere where you will need the protection...you don't need it here. Put the gun away in a safe place and enjoy yourself! No need to fear your neighbors here.

With all the former cops, FBI, military, etc here in TV it may not be their neighbors they fear. After Gen Norman Schwartzcof (?sp) retired he had 24/7 armed bodyguards for a long time. How do we know who fits into a similar category?

I can think of a lot of reasons why not. Most of them is that most of us will never be in that kind of danger.

I think answers that just are kind of smart aleck and not helpful are not the way to defend carrying a gun or change anyone's view on the subject.

I have never felt the need of a gun but if people do, fine. I will never understand it personally, but I do believe that you have a legal right to do so.

Many of us believe in second amendment rights but do not see the need at this time and in this place to carry a gun. We have lived all of our lives in exceedingly safe areas, and feel that this is an exceedingly safe area with no need to carry firearms. I have heard all of the canned rhetoric about how "I don't know how unsafe I was" but I did know how safe I was. And this place is still safe. When and if that changes, I will change. But please answer Gerry Ann sincerely.

Gerry Ann, now I know dozens of quite ordinary people who have guns and I am not so shocked as I once was. In fact during the break ins last fall I was very glad to know of their presence close by.
