At the time when I was shopping for mine we went with a pet and allergy one from the brand NEATO. Its the only one we found that actually vacuumed in a pattern and could sense things and go around them, unlike roombas which just bounce from one object to the next. The did a test to see how long it took a roomba to clean a room versus how long it took a Neato and I think the neato was faster by 1/3. The argument though is that the roomba cleans better by hitting the same spot multiple times...

The only thing I wish robotic vacs did (which they may have evolved in the past few years) is empty themselves when they return to their stations!

I bought the Roomba for my wife for Mother's Day. We used it for the first time last night, really amazing to watch it work. Our little Maltese followed it around and watched it the whole time. When it finished and went back to the docking station, I checked the dust container and couldn't believe how full it was, and the wife had just vacuumed yesterday morning. We're very happy with it.

I don't like, I love our Dyson. I love that you can look at and dump out the dirt each time you run it.

I gotta say, you must be pretty happy in life to "love to look at dirt".

Yeah well, You should have met my mom.

I come from Ohio where cleanliness is next to Godliness and cleaning was an Olympic sport.

Fortunately cleanliness is not limited to the great state of Ohio. My mother was a maniac about cleaning (she was also born in Maine). It rubbed off on me. We have 2 Dysons.

We love our new Roomba. We named her Alice, after the maid on the Brady Bunch. She is an 880 model. She cleans everyday at 8:00 pm and never complains. All we need to do is dump the dirt container every day. It's unreal how clean the floors are now.

We have a Roomba 770 named Rosie (Jetsons). I love it!

This seems interesting.
