One doctor made an unsubstantiated observation and it spread like wildfire because it sells books and newspapers. Funny thing about numbers is that twice as much could mean 2 verses 1 just as easily as 2000 verses 1000. In the first case the numbers are so small as to be statisically meaningless. in the latter it is significant. Statements from a doctor to the effect that he/she saw STD's more here than at a previous practice have no meaning without the numbers and comparison to a control group but sex sells and old sex sells more.

As concerns STDs and TV. All three counties where TV resides account for less than 3% of ALL STDs in the most recently posted data from the State of Florida.

Ref: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/disease_c...s/florida.html

Total for Lake/Marion/Sumter counties for 2008: 2879
Total for the State of Florida for 2008:96,957

Gees... The whole state of Florida didn't even make the Top Ten List.

WOW!!!! Don't shake hands or lick any toilet seats. Rampant in little Ol' TV.

The articles were written to slap a response. A stereotypical put down of a place of which these authors know nothing.

Can we give it a rest?

Too many people accept everything they read as fact plus we seem to live in an age where if you believe something it must be true.

I don't think many people who live here think that these rumors about all this STD transmission is true.

But I for one kind of enjoy thinking that those outside the bubble think that this is a rip roarin' place. It beats the heck out of people thinking we are all walking around with walkers and rocking on the porch. Although both are wrong, there may be a few doing both and maybe at the same time...

As PTurner says "I wouldn't know".:angel::angel:

What a wonderful thought. I would think that TV natives would cherish those images. It is proven that active people who exercise regularly act and feel younger. Personally, I would wear the rumors as a badge of honor knowing that TV has the same human "frailties" and weaknesses that the average city in the USA would surely have.

She only knew that the person who told her was telling her the truth because she wouldn't lie about a thing like that......

What kind of rumors have the rest of you heard?

Actually what you heard is based on truth ...Its $50.00 for each EXTRA outlet that you have put in at construction time......All house plans are pre-appoved by the county building codes dept.....If you want a change made then they have to go to the county to get approval.....and their is a charge for that ......I wanted a three-way switch changed to a different outlet on a courtyard villa and was told that couldn't be done ....this was in 2003...I'm sure some things have changed by now.......by the way , Its a one time charge..........

Rumors

During my time in the Navy, I entertained myself and some of my shipmates by starting rumors. Sometimes it wouldn't take but a couple of hours before the rumor came back, and it always had a lot of extra good stuff added to it. A ship full of young men is one of the most gossipy places on earth.

One thing that has always amazed me is that by the time the rumor got back to be, the one who told it would almost always swear that it was true.

Fun stuff, these rumors.

No thanks. I sold my land in S. Florida last Oct. But, I did confirm with the present manager at that outside bistro that the aforementioned was true.:boxing2:
