here's an earlier thread on the Morse Barbados investment:
https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...venture-62175/

an article re the project:
The Barbados Advocate - Marina expected to attract millions

and an interesting article from Barbados Today re the IRS and tax exempt bond issuance:IRS stumps Port Ferdinand investor | Barbados Today
kind of old news here - but interesting that the issue was picked up and written about in Barbados!

there is no mall.
and as far as celebration....if disney is reluctant to expand the existing community called celebration due to the lack of affordability...and a weak economy....why in the world would they come out here to the boonies and build a community?

My Momma always told me, "Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see". Best advice of my life.

1. There will be a Dunkin Donuts in Paddock Square Brownwoods across from the cinemas.

2. There is under construction or will be soon starting construction of a very large high end Mall along Route 44 east of The Villages.

3. Disney is to purchase a large parcel of land near or adjacent to The Villages to construct another planned community similar to their existing Celebration community.

4.Costco will be constructing a store along Route 44 perhaps within the Mall complex mentioned in Item 2 above.

5. There is an area within The Villages where they will start constructing exclusive Premier Homes of very high quality/costs to attract Medical Doctors.

Was wondering if any other fellow Villagers had heard any of the aforementioned and whether in your opinion any are true?

What I know...
I bet there will be a DD.
A mall is under construction @ Powell/44.
The land purchased across from Hanks B'Que on 466a is going to be $500,000+ homes...don't know about the doc thing.

AriaGrandparents2013 11-17-2013 06:56 AM

Let's wait and see what is true and what is only rumored to be true........! They say......rumors are more exciting than the truth....!,,!

My father said the same thing.

I like the saying. "After you finish talking, I watch what you do". That is the deciding factor.

ROCKETMAN 11-17-2013 09:18 AM

That land on 44 next to Brownwood was graded and ready for something but that was 6 months ago. Maybe closer to build-out a small mall but nothing big I don't think.

Where on 466A is Hanks B'Que?

Bonny 11-17-2013 10:01 AM

Can't imagine a mall going up on 44 when malls all over the US are struggling, closing stores and in some cases closing malls. I have a hard time thinking a mall is coming on 44. It's not even a major highway.

mulligan 11-17-2013 12:29 PM

According to Wildwood Building dep't office, NO plans have been submitted for a mall. The north end of the lot @ Powell and 44 is being developed as villas included in the recently expanded District #10. IMHO, the current demographic does not support any large stores being built. There just aren't enough people. The big stores look for areas with a population in the millions to draw from. 100,000 is chump change, and the wrong age group.

Bogie Shooter 11-17-2013 12:36 PM

Target is closing at the Leesburg Mall and the Mall itself is up for sale.

There's not a lot of sense in chasing down rumors--although we do have a lot of time for activities like that, and golf. When something like has been rumored here is going to happen, we'll have plenty of forewarning.

For me, I'm going to use that extra time pursuing other activities.

haha. that's why you didn't waste time reading this and posting a reply! me neither. I'm too busy having fun. ohoho!

and by the way, staff of the developer are among the last to know what is really happening...I got that not as a rumor.

Lynn is MIA, that's why I had to answer for her. Maybe Lynn knows Hank Burke who probably owns Burke's BBQ, hence Hank's B Que. Just another rumor, but as good as any rumors lately.

SusanOfWoodbury 11-17-2013 04:23 PM

I Heard that Macy's would like to come to the Villages, but, the only way they would open a store if there was a mall connected to it... Mall sounds great, one time shopping..

Rango 11-17-2013 04:47 PM

graciegirl 11-18-2013 10:00 AM

I want to start a rumor/ and or jump to a conclusion.

Sometimes on our way home after dark we pass the entry to the Morse home on 466. Sometimes the entry way and the significant road leading way back to the home are lit. Last night that was so and the house was ablaze with lights. I am thinking that the family is returning for Thanksgiving and I am thinking that maybe Megan Boone is home to see Grandpa Gary and all the family gathered last night to welcome her and they will be watching her show tonight together.

I saw where it had number one ratings.

I am such a Morse fan.

You knew that didn't you?

I don't work for him and never met him and MAY be disappointed if I did meet him.

But I doubt it.

gmracket 11-18-2013 10:22 AM

I have lived in The Villages for over 9 years now and to be honest don't believe anything until it actually happens. There are so many people that think they know but they don't and once a rumor spreads it gets to be a bigger story so until the Mall is there, Costco, Dunkin Donuts just sit back and see if it happens...don't look like you have egg on your face!

jtdraig 11-18-2013 12:11 PM

Hey, Tucson..where did you live there? We spent eight years at the top of Craycroft Road near Craycroft and Sunrise.......love it there.

AriaGrandparents2013 11-20-2013 11:17 AM

There has to be more rumors swirling around The a Villages to share with us.....??

I think hearing the scuttlebutt out on the street is fun to see what ultimately proves true.

So pass along your most juiciest of rumors......!!

...or one could get a life and live in the moment! What a perfect waste of time IMHO, why would anyone want to start or perpetuate a rumor? :ohdear:

I get dreams, gomoho. There are, in fact, several nice threads on here asking everyone what stores they would like or what they would like to see developed south of 466A and so forth. :agree:

Rumors, however, equate to gossip for me and I never got into that sort of "fun". Hey, gossip on... I'll look the other way. :)

Gerald 11-20-2013 03:53 PM

I don't believe any of them. Just silly stuff.

Steve & Deanna 11-20-2013 04:14 PM

Dunkin' Donuts, we already have one on 466 but another would be nice near Sumter Landing and Costco, that would be great and we would agree with Gracie Girl, NO MALLS. The stores in and around TV are just fine.

LndLocked 11-20-2013 04:50 PM

I am sure that ALL of the rumors are started by those carpetbaggers from Stonecrest, ridding on "our" trails, just flinging them about like the cretins they are!

I heard a rumor that another house was broken into in Sanibel today. EKKKK!

AriaGrandparents2013 11-21-2013 08:57 AM

Here's one for all to consider. While at Town Squares enjoying the evening entertainment had this conversation where it was pointed out that the TOP ENTERTAINMENT ACTS are:

No. 1 - Rocky and the Rollers
No. 2 - Scooter the DJ

What do you think?
