The way I read that ordinance is that you can not park ANY vehicle on ANY roadway in a unincorporated area of Sumter County, except for delivery, maintenance and service vehicle's that are doing their thing. This would include your guests when your driveway is full! Kinda harsh.

Maybe the following is confusing "On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street;". A quick read might lead one to assume no parking anywhere but what it is saying, in every day language, is "no double parking".

I hope this clarifies it.

Maybe just maybe the Sumter County leaders should be approached to change the rules on on-street parking in The Villages. I don't see a problem in my neighborhood but if a neighbor or two kept a 40 ft RV in the street on a continuing basis I personally would lead a charge to attempt to get Sumter County to make an ordinance change. I've got no problem with an overnight parked RV in order to load or unload----that's reasonable but permanent Parking is not acceptable to me. I would have purchased elsewhere if I had known you could "junk up" a street with trucks, cars and RV'S. I don't believe that the Village Developer had that in mind either. Yep, this issue has struck a nerve with me and if this is allowed anywhere in TV you can kiss our hard earned real estate values goodbye IMHO.

Ok but that's not what it say's in Chapter 17, section 0-29 (a) paragraphs 1h, 2f and 3b. I read that as no parking.

Those parts of the ordinance to which you mentioned above refer to the "right of way" not the "roadway".

Those terms are described in Section 28 (Definitions) as follows:

(p) Right-of-way: The area of a street or road adjacent to the roadway including drainage swales and areas, clear zones and all lands owned by or under the control of the county.

(r) Roadway: That portion of a highway improved, designed, or ordinarily used for vehicular travel, exclusive of berm or shoulder. In the event a highway includes two (2) or more separate roadways, the term "roadway" as used herein shall refer to any such roadway separately, but not to all such roadways collectively.

Do not think a $35.000 car or truck is "junk up". I park my car everyday on the streetmand will continue to do so. Never had I person who had a problem with it.

Keepingitreal, thanks for verifying what I thought I read. I do not live in Sumter County, but if I did I would want to get that ordinance change to something more reasonable. As it is written it's way too restrictive, IMHO.

The restrictions seem to apply the the "unincorporated" areas of the county. Is the Villages area classified as "unincorporated?. Certainly, the portion within the Wildwood city limit should be considered "incorporated" and city rules apply, not the county rules.

In any event, the 3 day limit for trailers, RV's and boats seems a reasonable time frame to complete whatever work/preparation is necessary for the use/enjoyment/unloading of the vehicle. A week's camp-out on the neighborhood streets by gypsy friends is not in the best interest of anyone. That's what trailer parks, or if you are a real cheapo, Walmart parking lots, are for.

Good posts. There's a class A motorhome that parks right at the villa wall outside my kitchen window. Stays for 72 hours several times each year. If I wanted to live in a trailer park, I could have saved quite a bit on my home. I don't believe there should be any overnight parking in the residential areas. It's really tacky and low class.

Boy whatever happened to just picking up the phone and asking the person who would know: The Sumter county sheriff perhaps?

My opinion is that our neighborhood streets are way too narrow to park any vehicle on. Just not safe for others to pass.

KeepingItReal (#37) it seems I was wrong. Having said that, I feel there must be some provision in the code that permits on street parking in The Villages.

72 hours are the guidelines. Tacky & low class would be months at a time.
