IMHO TV is helping out those who may have problems standing for long periods of time. My husband and I normally always stand during performances at the squares and leave the seats for those who need them. I have seen some people with their own chairs and that is fine but it is convenient to have seating available for others.

jimbo2012 04-09-2013 10:05 AM

How about TV just post signs that no more than X number of seats can be held for more than 15 minutes.

Or else the seat police will arrest you!!!!!

Seriously, at Brownwood there's another issue, people spread out all their stuff on the bench seats just to have elbow room, then when asked nicely if they would mind moving over a bit you get a frown!!!

Lake Sumter Landing and Spanish Springs should do what they do at Brownwood:

Not set up the chairs in advance, and hand a chair to people as they walk in.

With festival table seating areas, set up only the tables and rope them off until festivities are about to begin. Then people have to come to a table with their chair handed them.

I'm still amazed that we even HAVE such nice festivals, and live music every night at 3 town squares!!! Why people want to be so selfish like a preschooler at the toy box stomping and yelling "Mine. Mine. MINE!!!!" is beyond me.

Be grateful for what you have here!!!

Those people wouldn't think about chairs....plus "elderly" ( that means anybody older than me, BTW) have enough trouble just getting there, let alone dragging along a chair!

I agree about the elderly. I have my Mom and her walker. And now some want me to bring two chairs too. I already have my hands full!

Amazing how much preaching to the choir is going on here. Everyone on this forum agrees that saving seats is not the right thing to do - but it is going to keep happening - no matter what is said on this forum.

Accept the fact that a certain amount of seat saving will happen. If you want to confront someone and take a saved seat - do it. If you want to bring a chair from home - do it. If you want to stand - do it. There are plenty of seats available - IF YOU COME EARLY ENOUGH. Everyone should know who the very popular performers are like Rocky & The Rollers, Uncle Bob's Rock Shop, and Cactus Jack & The Cadillacs. Come early and get a good seat. Get to the square at 6 pm and you will not get a seat.

I agree with BOB abd BEV and several others who have posted. Why should the majority suffer because of a few. Just last week at 1:30 in the afternoon I saw three ladies tieing several chairs together with rope and plastic bags. Someone representing the entertainment department should create a sign stating "NO SEATS CAN BE RESERVED"..And up to 30 minutes before the music or whatever, is scheduled to begin, someone also from the entertainment department should police the square and undo any seats tied together. It's an outrage that persons are allowed to tie together a group of choice chairs, return home and expect the rest of us to honor saved seats.

Actually, he is correct. You do not need to take the firearms safety class if you can show prior safety training and the your DD214 is sufficient proof. That is on the Florida website that lists the requirements to receive a concealed carry license, although we all get a little rusty over the years and brushing up on firearms safety is never a bad idea.

If that is correct, then what we need is to have a Villager with a carry permit shoot a Villager that saves seats and then we are one less gun and one less seat saver to deal with.

I know you're joking but if that happened there would never be another saved seat

Being an Iowa farmer, that is the way things were settled when I was a boy.

The rules in tv state no chairs can be saved at events. They weren't too happy, but didn't get confrontational, at least they were smart in that regard. So what's the story, villagers? Save or not?:boxing2:

not

All it takes in Florida to get one is a copy of your DD-214 (no matter when it was issued) with an honorable discharge and about $75. No classes or tests are necessary.

There have been instances in The Villages where someone has "showed" their pistol to intimidate another person over parking spots. I can see it happening over taking a seat that supposedly was saved.

Well if someone showed their pistol to me over anything ,I'd be dialing the police very quickly.
