Default GiveMeTheVIN-- Daily Sun Ads

We normally receive our Daily Sun newspaper in a clear, plastic protective bag. In the past two-three weeks, the bag had this advertising on it: GiveMeTheVIN dot com.

Upon further research, I discovered that this is a company that provides quotes on your car based on the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). After answering several other questions, the company provides you with a firm offer, or not, depending on your vehicle's history.

Bottom line: Has anyone heard about this company and/or used them in the past? Are they reputable? Does the Daily Sun verify the legitimacy of companies before they accept advertising dollars from them? Just trying to do my due diligence. Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't expect the Daily Sun to verify the legitimacy of their advertisers. It would be too expensive to do, and it could expose them to liability if a customer gets cheated by an advertiser.

Would hope they would do at least some due diligance before we get adds from a bunch of crooks.

If we found out they did not would not consider doing business with their advertisers.

I think that is completely unrealistic. Caveat emptor.

I've heard their ads on radio for months, I assume they are a valid firm.

We get the paper daily - just to show how advertising is blahhh with me, I noticed the paper is in a whitish bag now - never looked tho. Just as I now breeze thru the full-page ads in so many sections lately. Not complainin', simply that advertisment goes right by me.

Maybe their carriers should stop and pour your morning coffee.

The newspaper itself (and every paper, magazine and tv station) also has ads that if you read, one might find "hard to believe" and border on deceptive as well as from companies with less than stellar reps. You gotta separate the poop from the good stuff with a little due diligence. Advertising has always been like that.

Actually the explanations from the company themselves at the link posted in post #2 make a lot of sense. Sometimes the customers are to blame because they can't read and take it out on the businesses.

Thanks for your input...I don't listen to the radio much, so that was good to know.

I think the process is that they'll give you a "quote" online, but then you have to bring the vehicle to one of their local outfits to get a genuine appraisal. They won't buy it without looking at it. I have an older vehicle and that what webuyanycar.com had for a process so I expect it's the same.

I have used Carmax in the past successfully and I was happy enough. My old car back then was worth less than $1,000, so I wasn't going to quibble for $100 or so in order that I could just get a fast sale and be done with it. There, like webuyanycar.com, you drive to their location and they appraise it (took 1/2 hour total).

If you want to get rid of a vehicle quickly without a private ad or trading to a dealer, it's worthwhile. Or to get a solid estimated value before you trade-in to a dealer.
