Default Sex offender living in the Villages

Saw this online. How does a 42-year-old get to live in the villages?

Thought you should be aware...

It seems that TO TV blocked the link. The article was in the Village news. Not the Daily Sun. I’ll try the link again.
Not working. The *** part is

TOTV will not allow links to the "other" online news.
Also you do not have to be 55 to live in TV. You can not have anyone under 18 living with you (they can be a 30 day guest). Also no such rule as one person has to be 55 or older. There is some law that allows up to 20% under 55 in a 55 yr old retirement community in Florida.

Which part bothers you? That he is under 55 or has to register as a sex offender?

1. There are probably more sex offenders - registered and otherwise - living wherever your grandchildren live than there are living in the Villages.

2. The sex offender in question was convicted of having sex with a minor while he was in his 20's. While it should have been a big deal to the minor and her parents - it isn't really a big deal to whatever community he lives in. Especially if he's living in a 55+ community where people under the age of 19 aren't even allowed to live in it.

3. If your grandchildren are living with you, then you might want to consider moving somewhere other than a 55+ community where most of your grandkids' friends will be old men.

You should be much more concerned with family members (or close friends of family members)...sexually abusing your grandchildren.

Not the person down the street.

Most Sex Offenders Against Children Are Family Members | Psychology Today

Most of the perpetrators of child abuse (neglect, physical abuse, and sexual abuse) were family members. For example, 80.8% of (instance-based count, rather than person-based) perpetrators were parents, 5.9 percent were relatives other than parents, and 4.4 percent were unmarried partners of parents.

The regulation quote you provided is correct but many people have mistakenly thought this regulation meant that we have to allow up to 20% under age to live here. That is incorrect.
The law does NOT state that we must allow 20% under age to live here. The law states that we cannot have over 20% under age and still be considered a retirement community. We could have NO one under 55 here. Many retirement communities right around us do not allow anyone under 55 to live there.
The developer has decided to allow the under age and felons to live here. I have never seen The Villages disclose the number or the ratio of under age 55 persons living here.

And actually the federal law is set up to protect the communities from discrimination lawsuits of those that are 55 and under. It allows Senior Communities do not have under 18 children and their communities. But as a rule most Senior Communities except you if you're under 55 has one partner typically is 5 years older or so and is retired. In fact many people who come down Central Florida still work where were semi-retired

The Village has no control of anyone living here under 55 if the home is a resale and The Village did not handle the sale. My kids bought here when they were in their late 40's and rented out their home, using it occasionally until they were 55. Now no longer a rental and they bought in 2005 when the price was right.

TV is "age restricted" not "55+". 20% are allowed to be younger than 40.
