Default Shade coverings on pergola vs. the wind

I am considering having some shade cloth installed on my pergola. I am wondering if the cloth can withstand the wind we often get during hurricane season? Does anyone have any experience with this?

You may also want to make sure your pergola is properly anchored and braced for the additional wind loading as this was probably not part of the original design.

All depends on what kind of shade cloth you use. Check the manufacturers specs to be sure.

Having shades down during a hurricane is not a good idea, no matter the kind. All it will do is create wind sail.
