thistrucksforyou: Thank you. My point exactly. For the most part cart drivers are very well behaved. The references to those killed if examined are void of such things as speeding infractions. In one instance a contractor runs a stop sign and kills a resident. In other examples its because of health reasons or the driver ought not to be able to drive a mix master. In another a guy from Oxford who has had his auto licensed pulled because of sight problems uses our golf cart paths so he can drive something and then hits a pedestrian. I was so mad about this I e-mailed the district only to be told nothing. Why and how can non residents be allowed to use our cartpaths? Where is the outcry here? Its bad enough that we do not have any really say in this community, albeit they feign otherwise . If law enforcement protction is so effective then why and how did this Oxford resident continue to use our cartpaths. The answer is because the cops are focused on anyone going 20.1mph. And the kicker is it isn't that guy but the one going 12-14mph that is creating the larger problems. Sorry folks but this is another one of those sore spots with me and because of this nonsense I use my golf cart sparely, in fact I am thinking about selling it and rented a cart when I play championship courses...its really is cheaper in the long run...and yes my cart is set at the legal speed limit

Reading this thread just got me thinking. Yes, I do that sometimes! Are there courses available to teach newbies how to drive golf cars in The Villages? I, for one would be eager to sign up. I've never been behind the wheel of of a golf car in my life! And the Roundabouts!!!! I may have to go back to college for those!

The sheriff has a right to be on the multimodal paths as does anyone else, resident or not. They are public access.

I thought Andy & Barney were dead?...

I want my law enforcement officers fighting crime,,,when they have all illegal drugs ,,,and thieves ...and speeding contractors,,, God forbid they even consider every worker has his green card! Then please take out after the crime infested golf paths!! Thank heavens they only give Barney only one bullet!
Did this guy have an AK 47? Real crime fighter!

Passed by other carts

Again and I have lived here quite a few years. iPeople who generally complain about getting passed by other carts are just the people who travel the paths 10-14 miles per hour. I just don't feel the police are justified in many ways the way they treat people here ...I'm just saying. However it is more popular to cry law and order.

Is it illegal to pass other carts?

So as public access all sumter county taxpayers are paying for their creation, upkeep, etc??????????/. I know some roads are public access. If you are right there are substantially more flaws in TV concept....just saying

Not to hijack the thread, but last year when I rented was my first time ever driving a golf cart. My first day renting the villa, a friend of my landlord (bless her heart) gave me a 45 minute "driving" lesson in the golf cart. I told her she could make some $ giving new residents golf cart driving lessons. And I loved the electric cart I used when renting last month. :gc:

Its not personal and its not because I don't have high regard for the Sheriff Deputies, I just think they should have more important work to do than patrol golf cart trails in a retirement community. And that's all I've got to say about that!

I see it much like a cop on the beat observing and being observed . I don't believe that p0lice presence serves only one purpose but rather provides security that is multifacited. JMHO

The sheriffs have no jurisdiction on the multi-modal paths (they're not just for golf carts)

I don't care if the sheriff's carting, walking, jogging, cycling or cooping on one of the donated benches.

Only the paths that share a road are within their jurisdiction.

Nothing else being discussed on this thread is of any real importance to me.
