The Shopping Madness Has Begun
I live one mile from neighborhood Walmart so I figured that today being Wednesday and the storm is predicted for Monday I'll get a head start on needed supplies.
I drive up Pinellas Place and enter Walmart the back way. First thing I see is cars and golf cart three deep at the gas pumps. Looking at that, I got gas now because I can imagine what the next two days will be like. The food store is very crowded and the parking lot is filling up. Oh my this will be bad if the storm continues on the track it is now. On the way home I hit the ATM @Sanibel pool before it empties. I added to the madness but now I'm glad no more shopping for a week. |

Tis only just begun!
So if everybody gets what they need for this one then they will be ready for those that follow!? Right? WRONG ! |

Got some water yesterday at the Oxford Super Walmart and more at the Southern Trace Shopping Center Publix as well as some canned goods in case the power goes out.
Not too crowded at either. So far. |

Tal, that was yesterday. Today the news announced Dorian is an official hurricane. The panic is kicked up a notch.

When you are always prepared, there is no reason to panic never wait for the crisis.

I stopped at Publix about noon and no more than a normal day. Parking lot less than 1/2 full and only 2 express lanes and 2 regular checkouts open. I was actually quite surprised.

Stopped at Sam's Club today on my way home from Disney. Not too much water to be had (probably will be restocked) but they are putting the Christmas Stuff out! This is still Aug. ..... right?

When Irma came through mass evacuations caused traffic jams and sold out gas stations on 75 and 95 and that was a Cat 1 at best. Then when it was time to come home, came thing headed south. We stayed and several neighbors who left said "never again". Maybe we stay lucky and SECO and Spectrum stay on, if not, do I actually have to talk to my spouse

Yes, go to Publix they are everywhere and don't sell gas. The day before Irma made landfall we went to Wynn Dixie and they had stacks of bottle water and lots of food still on the shelves. Why do golf cars need to be full of gas for a hurricane, if the main power is out there is nowhere to go anyway unless you just want to see damage.

Why do people wait til a couple days before a hurricane to get water? I always have at least a full case (24 1/2 litre bottles) in the house. When my second-to-last case is half gone, I know it's time to buy another one. Same with canned tuna - never ceases to amaze me how people stock up like crazy on this stuff, as though they didn't have a month before the forecast to buy any of it.
