Default GPS issues

We have a Garmin GPS that works quite well in The Villages. We thought
a bigger screen would be good and bought a new Garmin with life time updates.
The new one had no improved map updates over our older one. Anyone else
have this problem? I was also hoping it might have some streets in the
new section. No luck.

We have the Garmin with the 5 inch screen and lifetime updates. New maps are available about every 3-4 months. The latest is 2013.40 which we downloaded about a month ago. Haven't used it south of 466a but I do know it knows how to get to Bonifay. We don't use the car and GPS much in the bubble.

Similar situation. Old Garmin is Nuvi 760. New one is 2595. Even when updated to the same release number, the routing is different. The older one has better routings for our trips. However, both will get you there.

On the other hand, the new larger screen is nice, the voice commands are quite handy when driving, and the faster processor is appreciated.

Garmin buy their maps from a company call Navteq. MapQuest.com also get their maps from Navteq and you will usually see the streets there as the web site is updated daily or weekly while Garmin only puts out an update four times a year. Now what are the two models that you are comparing and how old are the units. Have you updated your maps recently? The last update came out in Feb 2013 and is version 2013.40.

The real problem is the TV is building streets faster that the Navteq can get there car into the area to verify the streets.

VG, you said once that there is an update sitting on the Garmin web site that they haven't released yet. Was that the Feb. 2013 one?

How long does it take to make a map? Mission Hills is one round-d-round south of 466 on Morse. Sales of the homes began Oct of 2011. As of today no streets of that village appear on Google Maps or on Mapquest. I do not have a GPS but would like to know if GPS provides that information.

I used my Garmin Nuvi on a recent visit to TV. Our home is in Gilchrist 209 and the latest update had that area included. Gilchrist is South of 466A. GPS worked great where ever we traveled in TV.

I checked Google maps and the built up parts of Fernandina now show up. And Google Earth looks to have updated the image to some time last fall.

My Garmin works fine. I've had to put in some way points to deal with new streets. I loaded 2013.40 last week and it has Pinellas Place and stuff north of Pinaellas Place. My part of Fernandina (south of Pinellas/north of Hillsborough Trail) still a blank spot.

The update was released in Feb and I updated my Nuvi 3590 with no problems.

Garmin buy their maps from Navteq so everything depends on when they have a tech van in the area to take the readings. If you see the streets on Mapquest then there is a very good chance it will be in the next Garmin update. Now I say that and Garmin was not true to form wioth their November 2012 update. The Feb. update was right on.
