Be open, honest and authentic and you will attract the same kind of person. My advice is , DON'T FEED THE TROLLS, by leaving the forum or altering anything you want to say.

:bowdown:LoriAnn you have expressed my thoughts exactly. I especially liked the part where you said you skipped his/her posts, I do the same thing.

Happinow, take a break if you must but by leaving you will be FEEDING THE TROLLS.

Happinow, please don't go. Like TV, there's room here for everyone. I don't want to see anyone leave. Everybody that post here is a thread that makes up the fabric that is TOTV. When ever someone leaves, the fabric starts to become thread bare and loses some of it's vibrant color.

What a lovely way to express it! Very true!

:agree: with jojo. I have also enjoyed your posts and your plans about moving to TV. As a wannabee I enjoy reading about people who are buying in TV and planning for their new lives in TV -- it gives me hope for the future. I hope you come back soon!

I don't have a clue as to what upset Happinow and didn't bother to check into the history of the prior posts leading to the post that he was thinking of leaving.

But once again, somebody who posts makes an announcement they are contemplating leaving and then appears to wait for the never ending calls to stay and all the accolades as to what a great contributor they have been.

Just go silently into the night and come back whenever you want or perhaps don't want to. But it would be nice to not have the sympathy tour prior to leaving or deciding to stay because of it.

Reminds me of the Brett Farvre retirement crying jag of a few years ago.

That is a classy way to sum up this topic. Let me say in a not so classy way that an opinion is like a fart. Everyone has one and some are more offensive than others but in the end the air clears.

It may be as you say, a not so classy way, but it sure was IMHO the best post so far on this thread! :p

The number one rule to have a user account on this site is to treat other people with respect and NEVER direct ANY comments towards a user but keep them on the topic. Agree to disagree. If you direct your comments at a topic and NOT the user then these issues do not arise.

We try to review as many post as possible but we don't always get to read them fast enough. If you EVER have an issue with a post click the red triangle in the upper right corner of the post and it will come to the admin and moderators for review and appropriate actions.

Not so happinow.

oh, don't let it get you down.

Remember, this is an OPINION forum.....everyone has an opinion. Sometimes quickly written replies don't reflect the whole spectrum of thought in what is typed.

I often type things without completely thinking the idea through.....that's the nature of an opinion board.....

I have gotten so MUCH from the posters! And I will probably keep reading and sometimes putting my foot in my mouth when I get carried away.

I got into some trouble with some opinions on another thread. It happens!

What exactly is a troll? Someone who lives under a bridge?

The last time I heard that phrase was when Caylee Anthony went missing in Orlando and everyone (writing to the Orlando Sentinel) was accusing each other of being trolls......one faction was giving the mother the benefit of the doubt while the other faction was trying her in the media and press before a trial ever came to be.

What would the characteristics of a troll be as pertains to the TALK OF THE VILLAGES FORUM? Just curious. Thanks in advance.

Good explanation........also, many people just type straight from the heart without thinking of composing a "company man" policy type statement.....

I love to read all opinions and allow everyone free thought....not pretend to agree just to be accepted. Maybe we've lived in New England too long.

People are plain spoken and for the most part, not phony. Blunt actually.

One person's opinion is simply that. Not saying anyone elses thoughts are wrong.

To me all differing opinions are valuable and thought provoking.
It's what makes the world go around....

In the context of the internet, chat rooms, message boards and TOTV, the word "troll" has a ver specific meaning. the definitions below explain the concept.

From:

What is an Internet Troll? (Posting Guidelines - Netiquette) What is a Forum Troll?

"An "Internet troll" or "Forum Troll" or "Message Board Troll" is a person who posts outrageous message to bait people to answer. Forum Troll delights in sowing discord on the forums. A troll is someone who inspires flaming rhetoric, someone who is purposely provoking and pulling people into flaming discussion. Flaming discussions usually end with name calling and a flame war."

From:

The Straight Dope: What is a troll?

"The term "troll" can have a double meaning, related to fishing and ugly monsters. Both are appropriate.

"Troll," in the context of message boards and the like, describes somebody who is posting just to be confrontational or to raise hackles. One example might be a teenager who finds a Jewish message board and posts, "The Holocaust never happened." The teen may not know or care one way or the other--he just wants a reaction. He wants to **** people off. He is a troll."

From:

Free Online Dictionary of Computing (http://foldoc.doc.ic.ac.uk/foldoc/foldoc.c gi?troll) notes, "Trolling aims to elicit an emotional reaction from those with a hair-trigger on the reply key. A really subtle troll makes some people lose their minds."
