Default Hillsborough Trail

We noticed that the road is sinking in just passed the gate from Buena Vista.
It has been fixed 2 times already and is sinking again. Anybody have any information on this?? Possible sinkhole??? Who is in charge of repairing the road, County or City?

Sumter County is responsible. This is very alarming news. Is the road closed? Are there public safety officials there monitoring the situation?

The "sinkhole" in question is a depression adjacent to and touching a manhole cover located in the center of Hillsborough Trail. Depression itself was never larger than 24" and was about 8-10" deep.

This originally happened 6-8 weeks ago and several safety cones have been there since it appeared. The area is so small vehicles have been traveling, unhindered in both directions (since it first appeared) with no delays or problems.

The County has repaired it once already. Cones remained after the first repair. It has now sunk a few inches again. Workers told me it was due to issues with a sanitary sewer line/ manhole access.

I suspect it is not alarming news to those of us who daily walk/run/ride/travel this section of Hillsborough.

Hopefully that may help settle understandable concerns. Of course that assumes the workers provided accurate information.

We live about a mile away, our home has not started tilting yet.

I have gone by it many times and wondered why someone doesn't fix it. You gave us a lot of great information, except, when will it be fixed?? Did the workers say anything about that??

There is a second depression several feet from the original depression. The Community Watch stops in the evening every couple days to measure it. I think there is a difference in what the County thinks it is and what TV thinks it is.....either way it is a County issue but TV is concerned enough to have it checked. Why wouldn't the County just fix it....what ever it is?

Sometimes "county" is the operative word when it comes to timely repairs.

I could, but then again it is apparent after all this time that they have little interest in repairing a hole in the middle of a road surrounded by barriers. Maybe the VCDD should call them and let us know what they said....maybe through a community info column in the paper (I mean one with real info). Oh well, maybe we should just accept it!!!
