How far can condominium board go in regulating smoking?

Sounds like the smoker would have a problem with whoever oversees the common pool.

I would think that's if there are rules against smoking at the pool areas it's enforceable. Are there "no smoking" signs in the pool area?
I'm just curious as a ex- smoker for over 15yrs. You can smoke around the perimeters of the squares but not in the squares themselves like the announcement states. Is there something like that at the pools?

Not sure. Never smoked. Did inhale some pot when about 14 but hated it. And got a lot of second hand pot smoke at many concerts.

Smoking is allowed on the outside of the square. That’s what ashtrays are for!

The purpose of the forum is to be a place for discussion and airing your thoughts and opinions. That's what op was doing. Nobody has the right to deny someone that.

You don’t have to go far to see cigarette butts in places other than an ashtray. Many smokers consider the whole world their ashtray.

Post of the year! :bigbow:

If only certain others could understand and accept...your very succinct, clear and dead-on post. :ohdear:

Even worse is that they allow smoking at the outside bar area at Hacienda Hills and that is a family pool.

Ate outside at City Fire the other day, forgot about the smoking. Never again will I be out there.

There was a cigar smoker last week in Spanish Springs. He was standing on the sidewalk where the tents set up for Market Night. I complained to a TV employee who is security for the squares. She said there is nothing she could do because smoking is allowed in that location. Yikes!!! That cigar stench was wafting all the way to the bandstand. Just awful!!!

Smoking cigarettes in the US has decreased considerably over the years. Seems is is practically non existent. All I can say is thank goodness for that.

I'm an ex-smoker since 2005 and all I can say is thank goodness for that!

Two things you -could- do, that are 100% legal. You just have to have the cojones to actually do it.
If someone chooses to drop their cigarette butt on the ground, pick it up and hand it back to them and tell them, politely and with kindness in your tone, "Oh here you go, you dropped this, sir.'

If stinky cigar smoke is making you ill and you're somewhere that moving upwind is not practical for you, pick up a menu, a piece of paper, a portable menopause fan (they exist), and fan or blow the smoke right back to their own faces. Remain at a respectful distance; your fan/paper/menu will do the work without you violating "this is MY space" rules of etiquette.

I have done each of these things, at least once. Possibly a couple of times.

Yeah....right...and what if they don't take it? Throw it at them?

Now that the smoke police have almost eliminated smoking, maybe they should start working on perfume.

LOL, Close 2nd for sure! And I find that men who still bathe in their 50yr old bottle of English Leather they got for their 25th b'day are worse than many women. I opened the door at Starbucks a couple days ago and my hands wreaked from Eng Leather.
