I have seen more gators than snakes. LOL

I have a couple of Black Racer snakes around my yard quite a bit. They are around 3 feet long and harmless to humans.

I do think that Nile Monitor Lizards might be in The Villages in the preserve areas. They have been seen in the Ocala Nat. Forest in pretty good numbers and they are not harmless to humans or small animals.

Are there any Monty Pythons in Florida?

I, too, dislike snakes of any kind. We are coming up on our 1 year anniversary of full-time Villages living and haven't seen any snakes to date. Knock on wood!! Get on down here!

Fried rattlesnake tastes like chicken too! No kidding.

I didn't know they had put a bounty on them. It's about time if they really want to get rid of them. How much is the bounty? Where'd you see that?

I've been here for five months. There is a 2-1/2 foot black racer snake that lives around my house. I've seen him a total of three times. Once I had to shoo him out of my garage. Once he sees me, he moves as fast as he can to get away and hide somewhere.

I saw more snakes on my property in Massachusetts.

I got used to gators, well, actually learned to respect their peanut size brains, and their ability to run 30 mph, when I did a summer in Flamingo FL, in E. N. P., but the poisonous snakes still give me the hebegebees, and I am as my dh says, short on one end, or under tall.

How many have YOU seen?
If you have decid3ed to remain in the state in which you currently dwell, knowing it too has snakes.......ditto for FL.

There are no more or less snakes that reside in FL......and like in all other states most people who live here never see one.

Absolutely right. Florida does have huge Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes, pygmy rattlesnakes, canebreak rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, and coral snakes but very rarely are they seen.

I came from Maryland where there were copperhead snakes. Every now and then, the Washington Post would report someone was bit within the District of Columbia commuting area. Snakes are in just about every state but nothing to worry about.

There is supposed to be a breeding population of around 100,000 Burmese Pythons in the Everglades - but we are never going to see them.

Do not be afraid of snakes in the area of The Villages. You probably will not see one unless you look for them.

I absolutely do not have warm feelings towards snakes. I do not like them, Sam I am.

We are in the middle of our fifth year in The Villages and just finished our first full year of occupancy. We owned a home in Hadley, rented a home in Harmeswood, and now live in Laurel Valley and I have yet to see a SINGLE snake.

I don't feed birds because bird food attracts small critters that are snake's yummies.

I love birds.

Our big birds also peck large holes in screened lanai's if you feed them.

Give careful consideration to not feeding birds. They have lotsa good stuff to eat on their own. Bugs, berries...all that stuff.

I'm afraid too, very much so, can't even look at a picture, I will just die if I see one, but were moving to TV, I golf and always look around the area I walk, never would I go in the deep grass, etc. But I'm willing to move. Better to shovel sunshine then snow.
Lived upstate New York all my life and have seen two.

When I told folks we were moving to FL, I got lots of comments about how hot it is, how buggy it is and of course how many snakes and gators there are. I guess they all believe that the whole state is just one big swamp. It didn't matter when I explained about not being bitten by one mosquito in TV and the heat and humidity in August was no different than Washington DC area. I am sure there are areas outside TV where the bugs bite and snakes and gators are more numerouse. But TV has a more controlled enviroment. Have not seen a snake or gator in the 6 months we have been here. Of course I don't go in any tall grass or near the ponds. Back home in VA I encountered 3 or 4 snakes around our home over the years and we lived in a well mainted area and not near any ponds. I too hate snakes and can't bear to look at pictures of them. Life is too short to miss out on a lovely retirement in TV...come on down!
