Sneaky Snake Under Downspout Plate
We were working in the yard first thing this morning, and hubby moved the resin plate beneath the downspout, which directs water away from the foundation. As he removed the plate, he saw this snake enjoying its beauty rest. Hubby and I both recently began the refresher course to our childhood tap lessons. Any of you out there, who enjoy "River Dance" would have seen the similar leap, performed by my husband , upon discovring the snake. Only thing missing, was "Michael Flatley's" wonderful heal clicks as he bounds across the stage.
We'd like to know what type of snake this is. |

Looks like it might be a black racer. Bet the snake went home and told his family about the mean humans who woke him up.

Yes, Gracie, I did indeed quote from "Sneaky Snake" ... a line we often used up north as our property was bounded by a lake - plenty of snakes there, but mostly harmless.

Its exactly why I do not have downspout plates but had workers bury downspouts and stone rather than mulch. You are going to find snakes under your water hoses also. But thank God I am only afraid of four ind of snakes big, little alive, dead

I disagree about the black racer, and think it is a blue garter snake. Would you mind picking it up and holding its head towards the camera lens?

I have never seen a black racer with color on top, unless it was a juvenile and then they are usually a brownish color with some diamond patterns. Had plenty in my yard at the last house. I'd still be careful with that one, just in case. Black racers will usually just go away unless there's a nest close by.

Based on this picture from Google, I suspect that it is a Blue Striped Garter snake.
