Nice but my biggest problem is with them in the meat department at Sam's Club.

Lol!! Go to many places throughout the world, and I’m not talking about resorts! Maybe Haiti or some African cities. When you land in the great USA, you may be tempted to kiss the ground! As nasty as people think it is here, it’s NOTHING like a lot of the world! We are a nation of little whiny brats! Sometimes I complain also and am no better. However, when I think of where I have lived and worked. It’s a miracle that I was never sick! Please don’t let the little things bother you and rant n rave like a little out of control 5 year old. Life is too short! Be friendly n be happy!!!

We live in much better conditions than most of the world. Some places are just plain gross. It’s good here! Be friendly!!!

I felt the same way after living in Manila for a year. I though things would be better there. When I hear people complaining about this country, I just shake my head.

You don't get it.... Wear a mask for hours on end you can't breathe... An most people need to work. Wear a mask while walking a mile or two see how much air you get. Need to stop believing what media is feeding you

Take the bag and rub the end that you will eventually open between your hands. Paying this forward from a helpful customer in the produce section at Publix. 😂 It works!

This is a pandemic. If you don’t know what that is then google the 1918 one. We are talking about a virus that can kill you especially if you have underlying conditions or if you are over 55 but even younger people have died. Our death toll is over 195,000 now. It is not the regular flu for which we have treatment or a vaccine. It is not the cold! If you think just don’t follow guidelines as it will get you sooner or later, then you are giving up what control you do have and that’s over your own behavior. The prediction of deaths now is 400,000 people by December. Hopefully we will have a vaccine by then. There are no guarantees that if you do everything right you won’t get it but if you don’t try your odds of getting it go up. Also, this can affect all your organs of your body and they don’t know the long term effects.

mrf6969 09-16-2020 08:11 AM

Just for a few minutes observe what all of us do with our masks. In a short 10 minutes we fidget/adjust with them several times. Hand goes to face to do this. When we take a drink or eat we lay them down in unsanitary places then put them with the collection of germs back on our face. Did you know you can blow out a candle with you mask on? Do you really think these masks are stopping anything coming out of your mouth? If your healthy these masks do more harm than good. If your in poor health and are at risk I am wondering if they are also doing more harm than good. Just my thoughts and observations on this mask mandate.

Bill Torres 09-16-2020 08:12 AM

Then why don't we just toss out all the law, rules . regulations etc. and live life like they did back in the days of the cave man. The strong survive and the weak get extinguihed.

deebrock 09-16-2020 08:17 AM

I agree. I find my self going to do this when i am bagging my veggies. Have to stop.

Excellent advice. Much better than using your saliva to moisten your fingers.

I think hand washing and general sanitation are much more effective. Hard to defend against the unseen, but I can find a way to stay a few feet away from someone who may sneeze.

I can NOT blow out a candle with my cloth masks or disposable masks. I can spritz water onto all our masks in front of a mirror and the mirror stays free if any water droplets.

I check all my masks before I wear them in indoor public places.

I expect any mindful person to check out their masks before going in public with them.

Imadancer 09-16-2020 09:32 AM

PRODUCE BAGS: Try taking an extra cart-wipe with you to produce. That will moisten your fingers enough to open the produce bags. NO LICKING required.

Worse is all the complaining and criticizing people do on social media. It’s a destructive practice. Spreads negativity through society.

I disagree with what she did. But if the customer did not object and correct this well who are you to get upset at what other people do?? Avoid the stress and live YOUR life.

I have the same problem due to arthritis in my hands and fingers. I have considered getting some of the silicone fingertip grippers from Staples and just wearing them anytime I go to a grocery store.

Customers touching edible products at the grocery store

My son was in one of the grocery stores yesterday and stood next to a man who opened at least 3 or 4 dozen boxes of eggs and methodically TOUCHED EACH AND EVERY EGG in each carton before selecting one to purchase! He gave my son a nasty scowl when he noticed him watching. Too many guns around TV to confront a nasty guy about sanitary procedures. AND, there are way too many edible products that can be accessed and touched. Beware...

Yes they are. When this first started I ran into this dilemma. I wound up taking all the produce bags I needed at once, licking my fingers and opening them all. One time. Then I got smart. I took a couple of sanitary wipes from my car, folded them up into squares and put them in the basket. When I needed to moisten my fingers I had a source and when I touched something suspicious I had a wipe.

I put a coffee filter (sized properly) between my mouth/nose and the mask. This gives additional protection with a cloth mask.

frasep 09-16-2020 01:16 PM

Rubbing the top of the bag between two fingers just does not work for me as my fingers are too dry. Here's a tip. I get a bottle of hand sanitizer out of my purse and wet my fingers and then I can open the bag.

During my first tour of duty in Korea, 1970 - 1971 I was stationed just a couple miles south of the DMZ. There were open ditches that served as street gutters and sewer lines. Rice paddies were fertilized with human waste. Infant mortality rate was very high. The air had an odor that would curl your socks up to your knees in the summer. I had to take a booster shot for yellow fever as there was a severe breakout of the disease that killed many Koreans. You could not eat food in the Korean villages and towns or drink the water as you could be infected with some very bad germs and viruses. Ice cubes in your Coke were a big no no. It would do our country good if people here were to spend time in a 3d world country. They would come back with a great appreciation for what we have.

Correction it was Cholera, not Yellow Fever. 50 years ago and it took a while to remember correctly.

patfla06 09-16-2020 03:02 PM

I really shouldn’t be surprised about some of your responses.

Before Covid her licking her fingers to open a bag would have grossed me out.
Now with Covid it’s serious to do something that stupid.

All of us are higher risk just due to our age.

I am high risk and go out with a mask and gloves and not very often.

I would hope that adults would know better about
Hygiene especially now.

P&WBryant 09-16-2020 04:20 PM

It amazes me that the "entitled elitists" believe that everyone else should conform to their "scientific" standards, or their political views on EVERY subject.
That said, if you have a problem with how a business is run, then do not frequent it.
If you have a problem with how someone else wears their mask, what kind of mask ,quality of mask or the attitude of those not wearing a mask, then STAY home where you feel safe.
A note on those crazy produce bags: When this first started, I was wearing a mask and gloves in the stores to protect my wife. Just like everyone else on here, I consider my family first and everyone else last. Human nature, regardless of what you may disingenuously announce. Those thin protective gloves make opening the plastic produce bags simple. If you are so worried about the virus, you should be wearing the gloves anyway. So, problem solved. I no longer wear the gloves and I wear the thinnest mask I can find, so I can breath easier. I submit to the business rules out of courtesy for the private business owners, or I do not shop there.
I agree with those that talk about 3rd world countries. I have been to and lived in several. I have never used hand sanitizer in my lifetime until I lived in India. I got into a habit of washing my hands almost every time I touched anything. I have seen dead bodies on the side of the road. AMERICA is GREAT! AmeriCANS are spoiled.

Once again, if you don't like how a business is run, there are plenty of other places you can shop. Go for it.

I always have hand sanitizer hanging on my purse. So, I use a tiny bit to wet my fingers to open those bags in the produce department. Never lick your fingers while you are out touching things that others may have touched.
